Inspiring Celebrations Since 2006

brand-new website coming today!

Hi Everyone –
If you’ve visited hwtm.com lately (or hwtm.com ), you’ve probably noticed that a new website is coming soon…and I’m happy to say that’s happening today!! It won’t be live until late night because we’re still working out a few kinks – and there are ALWAYS kinks, right? After months of working on this I have to say I’m about kinked out ;) So I just want to make sure that everything is running as smoothly as possible first, and we’re about 98% there right now.

In addition to a brand-new look, here’s a sneak peek and a few other new things you’ll find on the new site:

New party themes…

Ink + Wit: Letterpress Prints

Ink & Wit
How cute are these limited edition letterpress prints by Ink and Wit ?! Aside from the obvious usage of adorning your walls with modern flair, I’m thinking that one could create an adorable and super-contemporary baby shower or kids birthday party theme based around the elephants design: Feature the framed print between 2 small bunches of flowers for table centerpieces, and set atop white tablecloths with alternating yellow and green table runners. Throw in some cool topstitch lime partyware , napkins tied with lime and yellow polka dot or striped ribbon, and silver elephant placecard holders

Elsewhere in the party…bowls of lemons and limes, a beverage display with sparkling pear and sparkling lemon izze soda, and one of these super-cool bobles tumbling foam elephants in lime green, which would double as both party decor and a great gift…you get the picture :)

Super Bowl “Playing Field” Centerpiece

modern mealtimeI just love this football-themed centerpiece idea from InStyle Parties – which by the way is probably my favorite book on entertaining ever. ;) The centerpiece is created from a flat of wheatgrass (available from florists for about $20) and miniature plastic football players and goal posts. So cute and not the least bit cheezy!

BTW – if you’re in the San Diego area – HWTM will be on Streetside San Diego this Friday with some more fun – and contemporary – food & decorating ideas for Playoff and Super Bowl parties :)

REAL PARTIES: whimsical garden baby shower

whimsical garden baby shower I designed a baby shower for some friends a few months that was particularly special because of the circumstances… The couple had been trying to get pregnant for several years without success, so when it finally happened for them and they found out a little girl was on the way – mom-to-be described the feeling as somewhat "magical ".

She wanted the shower to reflect that kind of feeling – so I came up with this "Whimsical Garden " theme that incorporates all sorts of girlie things like butterflies, rhinestones, metallic vases, and glittery details – as well as unusual organics like oversize moss balls, snapdragons, mini orchids, and stargazer lilies. For details on how to recreate this theme, read on…

domino: 5 steps to a foolproof fete

foolproof entertaining
Domino magazine has a great article on their website called "5 steps to a foolproof fete ". These easy-to-follow hosting tips include:

Serve a house cocktail
(a.k.a. a "signature drink" that coordinates with your theme)

Make your place smell fabulous
(using fragrant candles in key places)

Get the light right
(Avoid harsh lighting and go for a soft glow. Set out tons of unscented votives for pretty mood lighting.)

Edit your playlist
(Compile a great mix of tunes for your bash that will keep the party going.)

Serve just enough food
(Finger food and snacks that are easy to munch on will help to keep guests going strong at a drinks party.
