GLITTERY “MOMMA SPIDER” Cupcake or Cake Topper

For this topper you’ll just need 4 bamboo skewers and a large glittery spider like this one I purchased at Michaels, which was part of a set of 3 for $2. You can also make your own using fine craft glitter & a plain toy spider.

The bottom part of this spider is hollow, so I simply cut the 4 bamboo skewers down to equal lengths, inserted them into the 4 top cupcakes* at angles pointing inwards, then rested the spider on top. She was actually pretty secure just like this, but you could always use glue dots or hot glue on the top tips of the skewers for extra security, especially if the spider you use has a flat underside. *You could also use this topper on a cake, as opposed to the 4 cupcakes.

GLITTERY “SPIDER KIDS” Cupcake Toppers

You’ll need small glittery spiders, hot glue, and tall toothpicks for these. I’ve seen these ready-made glitter spiders everywhere from Michaels and Party City to Target and online. Just hot glue the spiders to the toothpicks, let dry, and done! I glued them at different angles (some vertical, some horizontal) for added visual interest.

BABY “SPIDER BITE” Cupcakes

Top mini frosted cupcakes with black and orange plastic spider rings (the really inexpensive kind that come in big packs for kids) or small glittery spiders. If you prefer an edible topper, try gummy spiders or spider-shaped “fruit snacks” (often available around Halloween) OR use black & orange icing to paint simple mini spiders directly onto the cupcakes. You could also use melted chocolate piped from ziplock bags to draw tiny chocolate spiders onto wax paper. Freeze the chocolate spiders for a few hours before placing on the cupcakes.

CUPCAKE TOWER SERVER

This “Cupcake Tower” was constructed using glass cylinder vases & plates that I already owned. I covered the vases in pieces of striped Halloween Tights purchased at Target and simply stretched over each vase. The tights were $5/pair and each one provided enough material for several vases. The mesh material draped over the bottom tier is black cheesecloth (purchased at Party City).

Time was of the essence here, and the chocolate cupcakes were simply made from a box mix, frosted with store-bought vanilla icing, and sprinkled with Wilton’s Halloween Nonpareils (which were purchased in-store at Michaels). Substitute with any recipe you like!

We hosted a HALLOWEEN Party at our new playnation.com playset, over the weekend. The kids had such fun playing on the swingset in their costumes! Host a backyard or outdoor party! Let them play in their costumes for a great way to have fun!
