Bright & Colorful Easter Bunny Birthday Party

chevron easter dessert table

As someone that has always had an affinity towards bright colors and modern style, this vibrant, chevron-bedecked Easter Bunny Birthday Party from Amber of Party On! Designs is right up my alley!

It also happens to be filled with great inspiration for any fun Easter celebration… especially if little ones are involved… Check out all the adorable edible details below – from mason jar cupcakes to clever “rabbit food” snacks (cellophane bags filled with orange goldfish crackers and tied up with green trim!). I’m also loving the very Easter-party-appropriate dessert table backdrop, where inexpensive tissue poms added bold splashes of color to a simple white garden lattice!

{Charming} Pocket Full of Posies Birthday Party

pocket full of posies party - handmade aprons for girls

pocket full of posies party theme, invitations, and jean pocket garland

{by HWTM Contributor, Jessica Kirkland of Pen N’ Paperflowers}

I’ve been wanting to share this “Pocket Full of Posies” birthday party for some time now.  I’m hoping the charming little details will inspire you; like the denim pocket banners, the paper maché flowers and the handmade vintage-style aprons that went into making my daughter’s third birthday extra special.  I knew I wanted a “vintage-meets-fresh” vibe with some denim thrown in there to keep the party a little more organic versus…”fluffy”?

colorful flower cupcakes with flower cupcake toppers

Although I kept the party itself relatively simple, there were two key elements that really made the day extra special and tied everything together beautifully; the homemade aprons and the paper maché flowers. The aprons I envisioned were brought to life by Made by Morgan. She did such an incredible job of catching my vision, listening to all of my specific requests and sweetly, magically, bringing everything to fruition. The gorgeous paper maché flowers you see throughout the party were created by Maisey’s Daiseys Little Shop. She does amazing work and I LOVED using them as cupcake toppers, accent pieces for the rods of The Pastry Pedestal™, birthday cake decor and incorporating them into the backdrop.

Glam Pink and Purple Wedding + Clever “Tree Sign Book” Thumbprint Guest Book

Wedding decorated in purple, pink and gold. Full room and table settings close ups.

This gorgeous Pink and Purple Wedding styled by Amanda Ma of Fresh Events Company has the perfect mix of classic glam (including an amazing venue and stunning florals!) and thoughtful, sentimental details like a beautiful antique mirror that was adorned with images of the happy couple’s loved ones.

I’m especially loving the bridesmaids dresses and bridal party bouquets…the pink peonies and pink calla lilies are so lovely! And in lieu of a traditional guest book, Audrey & Mark had a “tree sign book” where guests made thumbprint “leaves” (which they signed their names on top of)… how clever & unique!

Operation Shower: A Star is Born Hollywood Baby Shower (Part 2 – Sweets Station)

a star is born hollywood glam sweets table and mini pies

In continuing with Part 1 of the A STAR IS BORN Baby Shower event for Operation Shower, here we go with Part 2 – starring the amazing VINTAGE HOLLYWOOD GLAM Sweets Station by Marie of Sweets Indeed! Shout-out also to Marie’s husband, Shannon of The Pixel Studio, who made the dessert labels AND took these beautiful pics.

I just love everything about this glitzy sweets display… from the super sparkly sequin linens  from La Tavola to the chic vintage props (courtesy of Found Vintage Rentals) – which included vintage film reels, gold nesting tables, a vintage dress form, and a fun piece that resembled the look of an old fashioned ticket booth! In addition to the fabulous array of creative treats – including pushcakes adorned with bow ties and darling miniature pies – one of my favorite details has to be the giant hanging paper stars that Marie spray-painted gold…LOVE how those turned out! I was also happy to see a cameo by the little bow-tie stork from the event signage & printables. ;)

Operation Shower: A Star is Born Hollywood Baby Shower (Part 1 – Theme & Decor)

a star is born - hollywood baby shower place setting with bow tie IZZE

As some of you that have been following HWTM for a while may already know, Operation Shower is an organization that’s near and dear to my heart. They do so much so help support our military families, and it’s always an honor to participate in one of their events! Of course it doesn’t hurt that LeAnn and Amy (the women behind Operation Shower) are super fun to work with either. ;)

And I have to say that this particular event – a “vintage Hollywood glam inspired” A STAR IS BORN Baby Shower held in Los Angeles – was especially fun to work on… fabulous sequin tablecloths, vintage film reels, sparkly crystals, glittered baby bottles – what’s not to love, right?!

hollywood baby shower centerpieces with white carnation ball, glittered bottles, and popcorn

That’s not to say we didn’t have the inevitable “hiccups” to work through – including but not limited to: a temporary bout with self-inflicted creative block, crazy weather, and tall centerpieces that had to be re-worked at the last minute due to an unexpectedly “bouncy” venue floor + impending nightmares of toppling vases – but it’s amazing how quickly all of that stuff is forgotten after just one look at the excited faces of the guests of honor! Jennifer from BellaGrey Designs has an adorable son that “LOVES” Trash Trucks… so guess what inspired his 3rd birthday party theme?! ;)

She did such a great job bringing this birthday “TRASH BASH” to life for her little guy – with clever details like trash can shaped cake pops complete with “flies a buzzin by the dozen” and super cute mini trash can favors with candy, toy trash trucks, and Waste Management rubber bracelets hidden inside the mini trash bags. (She made the mini trash cans herself! Here’s a link to the tutorial.) The menu even included playful items like “sanitation subs”, “waste water” and fruit served in “bowls” fashioned from small white paper plates. “Out of This World” Star Wars Birthday Party

star wars yoda cakepops and candy

This STAR WARS party that Julie of Totes in Tow put on for her son Mason’s sixth birthday party is truly Out of This World. . . and very colorful and creative too!

I’m loving all the bright pops of color used here – from the Spacey Shark Cups and Ewok Snacks to the lime green Yoda Soda and marshmallow Yoda and Stormtrooper Imperial Pops. The shimmery star background gave the perfect “space” effect without being over the top. Some of my favorite items have to be the fondant Galactic Cupcake Toppers and the Yoda sandwich cookies, which were made from the Star Wars Heroes & Villains Cookie Cutters purchased at Williams-Sonoma. They were almost too cute to eat! I (Jessica Wilcox, Modern Moments Designs) was lucky enough to help style the party after Julie did all the hard leg work of coming up with the overall concept, baking, and tracking down all the Star Wars party swag!

Grocery Store Birthday Party or Playdate

This imaginative “Grocery Store” themed birthday party {or playdate} from Abigail of Paper & Cake is such a clever idea for little ones that love to shop and pretend!

It’s always fun to see a unique theme come to life – and Abigail used colorful retro-mod paper designs to do so here – for everything from the super stylish food labels and personalized market signs to the clever DIY striped “awning” fashioned from paper, foam core, and some PVC pipe. {The entire Grocery Store Printable Party Collection is available at Paper & Cake.} I also love that the sky’s the limit when it comes to the food at this type of theme… you could go with anything from fresh fruit & mini sandwiches to alphabet soup for the main course… then let party guests stop off at the “bakery” for a treat!

Hawaiian Luau Inspired Birthday Party

Aloha! Today’s first party feature really has me missing one of my favorite places on earth… Adrienne from Cherish Paperie did such a great job on this fun Hawaiian Luau themed birthday party for her daughter, Kenna!

The focal point of the party was the AMAZING Tropical Birthday Cake by Cupcakes Couture, which was topped with gorgeous sugar hibiscus flowers and cleverly adorned with “hula girl attire”! Party guests were treated to fun Luau themed activities like a tropical dress up contest, hula hoop relay, lei making, and a hula performance with lessons! The Look For Less: RUFFLES Trend!

pink and black crepe paper ruffles table

Tonya Coleman here from Soireé Event Design! I am so excited to be the newest Guest Contributor at HWTM and share my very first post – “Look for Less!” Today I’ll be sharing my tips on how you can have a fabulous high-end looking table for less. Yes…it IS possible and I’ll show you how.

This post is all about the current event trend: RUFFLES! Yes…Ruffles are all the rage right now. We see it in fashion, interior design and now in event decor with ruffled cakes, ruffled tablecloths, ruffled dessert table backdrops and more! Here, I incorporated ruffles on two tablescape designs at two completely different price points {see breakdown below}. One is the high-end designer table and the other is my “budget chic” table.

hot pink ruffle table skirt

The HIGH-END DESIGNER TABLE features a gorgeous lamour ruffled table skirt for $58, along with a fabulous ruffled table lamp for $90 and ruffled chargers for $35.

For the “BUDGET CHIC” table, I got creative with crepe paper STREAMERS – of all things! – to pull off the ruffle-look for less. I must say that I NEVER use streamers in event decor…in fact, it is one of my Top 5 “No-No’s” in event styling! BUT seeing how chic these ruffled streamers are from Oh Goodie Designs..I am a BELIEVER! Aren’t they just FABULOUS?! (more…)

Train Birthday Party + Balloon Extravaganza!

coles party train room decor and entrance view

Inspired by her son’s love for trains, Jaime from YourBASH! created one super fun RIDE for his birthday celebration this year… and for all of his pint-sized PARTY TRAIN passengers too!

In addition to taking a ride on the adorable “Mini Express”, guests got to “stop” at fun Temporary Tattoo and “Make a Balloon” STATIONS. And speaking of balloons, there’s some seriously crazy-cool balloon art going on at this party… from the balloon artist’s creations to the fabulous giant balloon centerpieces, which really helped to fill the space and create a playful, kid-friendly vibe. Other favorite details include the train-shaped lollipop favors, napkin rolls embellished with “Chew Chew” printables, and water bottles labeled “Chugga Chugga“! I also love how the carnival-inspired food stations were lined up in a manner to look like a train… very clever! ;)

A Vibrant and “HOP”PY Easter Party

{HWTM contributor Maureen Anders of Anders Ruff here!}  If you like bright happy colors and sweet styling, our most recent shoot might just be what you were “HOP-ing” for in an Easter Party!

Universal Studios recently hired us to design a printable “Hop” (the movie!) themed Easter Party Printable Decor Set to include in all of the “Hop” DVD/Blu-Ray movies sold at Target. (Movie hits shelves 3.23.12)  We styled an Easter party using the printables and are very hoppy to share with you some of the craft and styling ideas that are versatile enough to be used for other themed parties! From the giant homemade gumball machines to the lollipop trees and ruffled mini cupcake pops, the party was full of DIY ideas for decor and desserts.

The printable Easter Decor set is free for download with the special code and download site provided inside the “Hop” Movie at Target for a limited time.  Look for the Anders Ruff logo on marked movies.  The movie is a great Easter basket filler that the kids will enjoy year after year.

“Hop” takes place in the Easter Bunny’s candy factory, so we made sure there were plenty of sweets and elements to remind you of the giant candy factory.

After seeing several tutorials on the web for DIY gumball machines, we knew we could create giant gumball machines to symbolize the giant candy machines in the movie.  Gumballs (Candy Warehouse) filled each machine with the colors that played a big role in the movie.

Talk about feeling like a {birthday} QUEEN for the day! Sonia did an amazing job on this super colorful & modern ALICE IN WONDERLAND inspired birthday party… and although she created it especially for her adorable daughter Sophia, something tells me that the guests at this party probably felt like royalty too!

From a super stylish Mad Hatter Tea Party (provided by Enchanted Fairy Tea Parties) to playful themed treats like “White Rabbit Food“, “Eat Me” cookies, and an amazing flower-bedecked cake topped with a fondant tea pot, Sonia definitely highlighted all the key “Alice” elements. She also added a unique twist on the theme by going with a primarily bright blue, hot pink, and yellow color palette – as seen in the fabulous stationery elements, dessert table, and matching DIY decor. Clever “Countdown” Gender Reveal Party

gender reveal party new years drinks and cupcakes

This elegant New Year’s Eve Gender Reveal Party by expectant mom Sarah of Indianapoluxe is absolutely stunning and timeless… and the “countdown” theme is actually relevant for this type of party – or even baby shower – all year round! I (Jessica Wilcox, Modern Moments Designs) recently threw my own gender reveal party and know how much time and effort goes into planning an event like this.

Gender Reveal parties are such a fun way for the couple-to-be, family, and friends to find out the big news together with a bang… and in this case I mean that literally! Sarah used colored fireworks (blue for a boy and pink for a girl) for the big reveal and it doesn’t get much bigger than that!

gender reveal party water bottle decorations

To further personalize the party and pay homage to where it all began (the couple was vacationing in Italy when they found out that they were expecting), they included cannolis along with other yummy desserts in their dessert buffet. The handwritten chalk board signs used throughout are a great addition to this fabulous black & white party. Check out the excitement on the couple’s face before the big reveal. . . . (you’ll have to keep reading to see if it’s a girl or a boy because we’re not telling!)

Rustic-Chic Rugby 1st Birthday Party

I’m loving the sporty-meets-rustic-chic style of this fun RUGBY inspired 1st Birthday Party created by Kelly from A Little Savvy Event!

Drawing inspiration from the birthday boy’s family (dad was a professional rugby player and the entire family was in New Zealand for the world cup last year) – Kelly created a fun party atmosphere complete with a makeshift “rugby field” for the kids to play on with “grandstands” fashioned from children’s chairs and beanbags! Details like framed newspaper clippings featuring the All Blacks winning the World Cup last year, an upscale tailgate menu, and creative chalkboard signage added some chic grown-up flair to this first birthday celebration.

Free RAINBOW St. Patrick’s Day Printables

You know me (guest author Jessica Wilcox, of Modern Moments Designs) and FREE things! I love to get FREE things and I LOVE to give them even more… so let’s just say that today is your LUCKY Day! I’ve noticed a lack of cute and unique St. Patrick’s Day printables out there… almost everything is your typical green and white. I really wanted to design a new set this year and incorporate a rainbow print and a lot of fun elements.

Pinterest is full of fun Saint Patrick’s Day ideas. Here is my pin board if you want to check any of my pins out. I took inspiration from several of my pins to create these fun free printables that I’m sharing with you today! (Download links are at the bottom of this post…enjoy!)

First, I wanted to use full-size rollo packs, which I got at Target for $0.79 each. (I also called my local Cash and Carry and they sell boxes of 36 for $22, which would make a great gift for your child’s entire class).

Several ideas I saw incorporated the “loose” rollos, but I thought it would be fun to create a full wrap. I simply unwrapped the old one, grabbed my cute “Pot of Gold at the end of the Rainbow” wrap and used double-sided tape to secure it! Super simple, but super cute! (more…)

Sensa-Dough Scented Playdough

There’s something about brightly colored and delightfully squishy dough that is just so much fun as a kid… (and actually as an adult too – as I’ve been reminded lately when playing with my almost-2-year-old!). And because this childhood favorite is also a very popular kids party activity,  I’m especially loving the fun, unique twist that etsy shop My Little Otter has introduced with their playful “Sensa-Dough“. You guessed it… SCENTED playdough!

With yummy scents like Easter Egg, Marshmallow, Graham Cracker, Birthday Cake, and more, plus 2 available sizes (2 oz & 4 oz),  this non-toxic dough is such a fun gift or party favor idea (for kids that are old enough to understand it’s still a toy, of course)! And this week at HWTM, My Little Otter is giving away TWO $50 Gift Certificates towards the Sensa-Dough of your choice… the winners can pick any combo they like!

Amazing Lorax Party + DIY Truffula Trees
