A gorgeous new Pier 1 Imports store opened a few weeks ago and I was thrilled to participate in the Grand Opening Event by demonstrating some creative and outside-the-box ways to entertain with Pier 1 products! Amber and Alyssa came with me, and we had a great time chatting with guests about entertaining ideas and teaching them how to make different types of DIY paper flowers. Another fun piece of “grand opening” news: Pier 1 JUST launched a brand new website complete with ONLINE shopping!
ENTERTAINING OUTSIDE THE BOX
From rustic coffee mugs used as dessert pedestals to a colorful tube wine rack reinvented as a table centerpiece, I’m excited to share a recap of the event’s entertaining tips & highlights with you today! The best thing about all of these tips is that they can be utilized with ANY sort of theme or occasion you have in mind.
KEY TIPS TO LOOK OUT FOR:
– DIY Paper Flowers (4 different styles)
– Theme & Color Palette Inspiration
– DIY Cake & Dessert Stands made from dishes, bottles, and candle holders
– Repurposing & Reinventing (necklaces as mini garlands, napkin rings as bottle accents, etc)
DIY PAPER FLOWERS
We showcased a few different types of paper flowers, but the easiest variation (pictured above) was probably my favorite style, due to both the “quick & easy” factor AND the fun whimsical vibe they gave when attached to floral wire! I displayed some individually in mini glass bottles used as “bud vases”, and combined a whole bunch of them with fresh flowers for the table centerpiece:
*Note: A tutorial on the whimsical paper flowers will be posted separately.
VINTAGE BOTTLE DESSERT STAND
I also used a trio of the mini glass bottles ($14/set of 4) to create the playful dessert stand below. Despite what you may be thinking, this was actually very sturdy! The bottles are secured to the plates using 3D craft glue dots.
Jen Hrycyk from Jen CYK Photography is known for beautiful emotion-capturing photos, and today we have a special treat for you! Jen is here to share great tips for a family photo session + images from an Anthropologie Style Tea Party Photo Shoot. Take it away, Jen!
“I have a hunch that a lot of you lovely readers out there have had a professional photo session. You’re reading this amazing blog, so we know you have impeccable taste. And this happens to be a visually beautiful place, so we know you care about fantastic pictures. So with summer here, gorgeous sunsets, and and lots of bright colors in style, odds are you may be thinking about a family photo shoot of your own.
Here is a fantastic example of an Anthropologie inspired photo shoot. The amazing thing about it, is that everything from this shoot was collected from the family’s home.
Alice of KaLice Events threw her business partner, Katie, a beautiful, vintage-style SURPRISE bridal shower with “Anthropologie inspired” flair! Playing on the “All You Need is LOVE” theme, Alice combined personalized touches and the bride-to-be’s favorite color with lots of lace, sweet treats, and delicate paper details.

I was recently sent a party pack filled with some fun entertaining goodies and asked to describe how I’d use them to throw a “Classic American Party” featuring the new Bacardi Classic Cocktails Light, which is available in Mojito and Pina Colada flavors. The party pack had a kind of a rustic-American vibe to it, filled with items like “mug” style mason jar glasses, a red & white gingham check table runner, royal blue place mats, wood+ceramic salad servers, iron tea light holders, and a super cool rattan 3-part server (pictured below).
KEEPING IT SIMPLE & STRESS-FREE
Since the whole point of pour-and-serve Bacardi Classic Cocktails Light is to be stress-free and easy, I chose to focus on a simple and stress-free approach to the “Classic American Party” theme as well. In addition to a quick centerpiece idea, I’m going to share a super easy (and healthy!) Spinach Cantaloupe Salad with Mint recipe with you today, which pairs perfectly with the Mojito flavor of Bacardi Classic Cocktails Light. Here’s a peek at how the Mojitos look served over ice in the mason jar mugs:
