Mickey, Minnie, and the gang are all ready to celebrate… in STYLE! Veronica Spencer of Oh Rosie Day crafted up a storm for her daughter’s super cute & CHEER-ful Mickey Mouse Clubhouse 2nd Birthday. Transforming her entire kitchen area with polka dot tissue poms and incredibly detailed snack + dessert displays (how awesome are the Mickey-inspired table covers?!), I think it’s safe to say she deserves three cheers… and I totally agree a nap and a massage should be thrown in too! ;)

PARTY DETAILS, as told by Veronica…

Following up last year’s Peter Rabbit party was a hard one. So much changes in a year. Toddlers have opinions and attitudes, likes and dislikes, and they’ll certainly tell you about them! Rose loves Mickey, Minnie and the gang, so I ran with it! Largely inspired by some fun parties I found on Pinterest, I worked hard to transform our kitchen into a fun party room for our friends. I love to craft and DIY so the majority of this party was done on a really low budget but with big results!

Coming into the house I wanted to set the scene. I made a “Come Inside It’s Fun Inside” sign for our front door using card stock and vinyl. I loved the contrast between the gloss of the vinyl and the matte of the paper. It turned out better than I could have imagined!

Walking up to the kitchen I placed Mickey head topiary planters. I had a bit of a love hate relationship when building these, but they turned out really sweet in the end. I found foam balls at the dollar store, used hot glue and toothpicks to stick the ears to the heads, then
spray painted them black. After that, I put a coat of spray adhesive on them and then dusted them with black glitter. A lot of black glitter. Easter stock at the dollar store also meant that shredded yellow paper was available which made for a really cute fill for the red buckets. Each topiary cost around $5 to create. I think they made for a nice lead in to the party.

The showstopper in the room was the backdrop behind the desserts. I used 6 rolls of wrapping paper I found for $1/roll to create the polka dot/yellow/red backdrop, and then layered on the happy birthday banner I made, and the polka dot pennant banner I found ($1!). On each side I put bunches of polka dot balloons that we inflated with a helium tank at home. Total cost was less than $15. What a bargain!

Throughout the room I placed oversized double sided Mickey Mouse Clubhouse characters that I created and built. They made the atmosphere really fun and the kids loved seeing the whole gang hanging out around the room. The characters ranged in size from 16″-30″ and had glitter and gloss accents. They turned out terrific!

Because we have high ceilings, I was able to string tissue paper poofs, lanterns, and fans across the room without worrying about people hitting their heads. I found the tissue paper and fans on clearance after Christmas when basically anything red and white was on
sale for 50% off or more. The lanterns I bought at Target 40-50% off since they’re closing in Canada (sad day for mommies up here!).

A really fun element that I fell in love with was a set of 3D letters that spelled out “Cheers” that I found in Target. In the Clubhouse Mickey always says ‘If you’ve got ears say cheers!” so I added the rest of the phrase above using card stock, vinyl and bakers twine. I love the way it set a backdrop to our food apart from our main dessert area.

Lastly, and I think what really emphasized the whole room and party, were probably the cheapest element in the room! The tablecloths! I used red and black plastic table cloths ($0.99 each), layered them, and then taped white circles on the front to make Mickey pants. $6 total, impact was HUGE!

Other touches I put into the party were personalized sippy cups for our toddler guests done with permanent adhesive vinyl, Mickey Mouse loot bags, my simple but pretty cupcakes and cake (pretty good considering I hadn’t decorated a cake in 3 years!), and a great big 3D number 2 I made out of cardstock decorated like Mickey.
