One of my favorite pastimes is throwing unique parties and I had the privilege of styling a special baby shower for a family-friend’s first child.

Shannon, the mom-to-be, is a charming and beautiful woman inside and out and though she is having a boy (and because she'll soon be outnumbered!), I wanted her party to reflect her personal style – beautiful, feminine, classy, and elegant.

Sunset yellows, aqua blues, and grassy greens set the tone throughout the party accented by earthy hues of kraft, burlap, cork, and twine. Actual globes and globe shaped items like buttons, balloons, poms, and ceramic balls further perfected the theme.

A fantastic set of vintage globes supplied by Era Vintage anchored the theme and served as perfect visuals for the party. Suitcases and wooden crates provided varying heights on the tablescape and dessert display, and a giant interactive map set the backdrop of the party. The map included pushpins designating pre-baby travels of the parents-to-be and a simple global baby trivia “game” that guests could read and match at their leisure.

Adorable hand-painted globe buttons by Craft that Party adorned as many party elements as possible including favor bags, corsages, and several suitcases. They were also set randomly about, strung together for a mini-banner in the dessert display and passed out to children as a special token from the party. Craft that Party also provided unique double-layered sewn crepe paper ribbon that was cut and used as napkin rings, suitcase accent, and corsage ribbon.

A party favorite were the incredibly fun oversized balloons with coordinating tissue tassels by One Stylish Party. These greeted guests and provided lots of entertainment for the children! Their enormous 36” size served perfectly as a “globe” shape and looked stunning alongside indoor party elements and lined up outside for an entertaining balloon run.

No elegant party is complete without fresh-cut flowers, and the fabulous local King William Florist provided a stunning pair of rose and baby breath arrangements housed in mason jars. Mason jars were also used for beverages; Ball’s new line of throwback Mason Jars in the original blue hue were the perfect addition to this party and matched beautifully with the décor.

Three different types of maps – traditional blue, vintage brown, and antique metallic – served as the primary materials for DIY party elements including pinwheel trios, tassel banners, drink tags, and food labels. They were also shredded and used to decoupage mod-podged ceramic balls. Dyed coffee filters created flower corsages and elegant poms.

A uniquely stunning map fabric from French etsy shop Chezlele was used to create a scrap banner, table runner, and embroidery hoop décor. Hung in the bay window, the embroidery hoops filtered light beautifully and set a simple yet stunning tone for the dessert table.

Food & Dessert:
Hors d’ouevres, dips, and nibblers, all served in round serving dishes, were placed around the oval dining table (chairs removed for easy access). My personal favorite were the avocado deviled eggs – naturally tinted to match the party décor!

The dessert display included round candies – “world favorite” m&m’s, “globe” gumballs, and “globe” chocolate balls (sixlets) – displayed in globe halves repurposed into candy bowls. Round food-color dyed sugar cookies and a cake baked by a friend featuring a sweet fondant baby atop a fondant globe anchored the center of the display.

Incredibly detailed globe cake pops from Sweet Cheeks Tasty Treats were a fantastic addition to the dessert display and a party favorite among all. These were seriously impressive and a must-have for any globe themed party!

There’s nothing more special than welcoming a baby into the world and styling this party for my friend brought me great joy. I love this juxtaposition of feminine touches with masculine themes and how the varying maps, textures, and elements came together for a seamless and elegant tone. I hope the unique details, handmade additions, and special touches inspire you to create your own “Welcome to the World” baby shower!
