My little princess turned 3 on Wednesday, May 1st, but we waited until Saturday, the 4th, to celebrate her birthday with some family, friends and her classmates both from her My Gym and dance classes. I saw wonderful ideas on this blog and on Pinterest of art parties. I thought they were unique and fun for my daughter's age. She loves painting, doodling and anything artsy, so I decided to go with the theme. I'm a stay-home mom so I was able to take my time to prepare for every single detail. I basically handcrafted and handmade her decor (colorful paper chain and tissue pompoms) and other fun colored details. My sister, who is an amazingly creative sewer, made her "artists' tote bags," which the kids could decorate. I enjoyed shopping at Michael's and Dollar Tree for all other creative goodies - from foam stickers, window crayons, sidewalk chalk, canvass boards (which I put in each bag along with "creative instructions" for the party activities/festivities), colored glue sticks, glitter glue, paint and many others. For the younger kids I made homemade edible paint, facepaint and puffy/dough paint. More so, the weather was simply perfect (80F with some cool breeze!). I've been baking a lot, so i made sure to include a candy buffet with all homemade goodies (save for a few stuff - ice cream!) - from meringues, macarons, edible paintbrushes, cupcakes and of course the birthday cake, which was a doodle cake (idea inspired by Sweetapolita). Needless to say, everyone had a blast - from the young, creative artists to the "older" artists! My little artist princess, Leila, had the most fun just creative a lot of messy masterpieces with her friends!
PS: My only regret was not getting an event photographer! I missed out on a lot of details and a lot of fun moments because I had to do the pictures myself. Oh well, lesson learned. Definitely getting one the next time!
