Nautical Birthday Party (33 photos)
For my son's 5th birthday party, I was inspired by a wall art panel with the famous nursery rhyme: “Row row row your boat...” . I felt it captured his transition from preschool into kindergarten, and could picture him rowing the boat into his new exciting future.
The party was held at our house in Vancouver. After deciding on a nautical themed party, I knew I wanted to have in our big backyard a couple of boats for the kids to play and feel the nautical atmosphere. The large boat was made out of a fridge box that we got at our local Home Depot. Together with my sister Jen of "Il mondo di Maria Jen" we designed the flags for the food and the drinks tables. Jen also designed the invitations and made the beautiful cake topper in fimo. I found the wooden anchor and helm at Homesense. On Etsy I found these adorable beach huts that I used as party favors. I put a bag of gummies inside each hut.
The food included cucumber rolls (my son's favorite sushi roll), crab dip, strawberry-mango salsa, Greek pasta salad, spanakopita, and miniquiche.
The dessert table included: simple red and white cakepops, decorated with a small flag that I made, blueberry tarts, anchor and boat cookies decorated with royal icing, strawberry-white chocolate cupcakes, and the cake (Italian pan di spagna with custard and strawberries) frosted with stiff whipping cream.
The drinks table was decorated with flags, and a lighthouse that I found in a trift store, and that I painted in white and blue. Drinks included a homemade lemonade with mint leaves, a berry punch made with berry smoothie and sprite, pops, water, etc..
