Ocean Themed 12th Birthday (18 photos)
I planned this ocean themed birthday party for a 12 year old girl on September 28th 2013. She wanted a sophisticated party that she could celebrate with her girlfriends.
Message in a bottle invites were a no-brainer for me to make. They were simple, unique, and really set the mood for the ocean theme. They were also fun for Sophie to hand deliver them to her friends at school, needless to say, they were a hit!
For food, I had brainstormed themed ideas such as tuna melts with clam chowder & oyster crackers, but Sophie wanted good ‘ol pizza! Which also made it easier on Mom not having to cook. For snacks and treats we served Izze drinks with drink tags to match the theme, fruit kabobs, sea salt chips, pirate-booty popcorn, blue “fish bowl” jello, star-fish cookies and chocolate cupcakes (that I made).
For the activity the girls all made sea salt body scrubs. I provided 4oz jelly jars for the girls to use. I spray painted the lids to match the party colors and glued a party tag to the top. This also served as one of their party favors. The other party favor was candy! I provided treat bags for the girls to fill with salt water taffy, “ocean pearl” gumballs, vanilla star-fish pops that I made, blue rock candy, and blue gummy bears.
I only had 9 days to plan the party including the invites so shopping local for my decor items was a must! I purchased the bottles for the invites at Michaels. Plates, napkins, balloons and paper straws at a local party store, Special Occasions. The chevron table runner is actually wrapping paper that I found at TjMaxx. The candy was a combination of Winco and Market of Choice. All the other decor items I had in my stock of event rentals. Apothecary jars, cupcake stands, medicine bottles, crates, baby food jars, chalkboards, mason jars, clear class CB2 balls... Sophie's family had all the sea shells from their collection when they go to the beach.
