Let's Luau (42 photos)
My daughter wanted a luau for her 6th birthday party. We were blessed with gorgeous weather in Houston during the party. I DIY-ed everything for this party, from cake, cookies, decorations, and food.
DIY projects I did for this party:
- I wanted an outstanding, colorful backdrop for little money. I got the idea for this from my kids' school where the teachers always made decoration using construction papers. I cut the papers free style to resemble hibiscus petals. The petals were then hot glued together. The big number 6 was made of a cardboard and flowers from the leis curtain I got from Oriental Trading on it.
- I got the idea ffor the Ferrero Rocher pineapple rom Pinterest. The base was a wine bottle. I covered the wine bottle with green tissue paper, and hot glue the Ferrero Rocher on.
- I made a leis chandellier to put above the food table. I used a lamp shade from our broken IKEA lamp and hot glued leis on it. The idea came from Pinterest too. Gotta love Pinterest!
- The "Tiki Bar" was made out of a box covered with crepe paper. I used the paper towel cadboard roll for the poles. So much fun to make and so cute.
We had about 24 adults and 20 kids. We served Hawaiian menu including Kalua Pork and Spam Musubi. My coworker gave me palm leaves and I used it for the table cover for the luau.
Such a fun party to organize!
