Sesame Street was the theme selected for my daughter Isabella's 1st Birthday party. I had hopes of something polka-dot and pink, but as we walked down the isle at the party store, my dauther fell in love with the Sesame Street party decor. So, what is a mom to do....just what her princess wants. Someone told me that I needed to enjoy this party since it would be the only one I would have a say in the theme on, and needless to say I have a very opinionated daughter.
I made or embelished all of the decorations with the help of my Crikut and the Sesame Street cartrage. It can be purchased at most craft stores. Instead of paper streamers, I used ribbon and felt from JoAnn. I used candy as a way to pop color and also as a decoration. The theme was primary colors, so gum balls were a great filler along with lolipops.
The cupcakes were made by myself and my mother. She decorated them and then placed the cupcake picks that I had made with the crikut and a lolipop stick. We used the Wilton Elmo cake pan to crate the Elmo cake and for the baby cake, we used a small cake pan and decorated it with a baby cookie monster candle found at a party store.
Nothing is better than watching the newly 1 year old eat their own little cake. I made a ribbon banner with her favorite Sesame Street Charactors hanging from the front. It was a fun touch that was easily hung with removable glue dots.
For party favors, we re-used baby food jars, painted the lids and put a face of a Sesame Street Charactor with ribbon around the jar. For kids, we used plastic bags and filled them with Sesame Street goodies including a coloring book and other toys found at the party store. Infant guests received an Elmo rattle/teether.
The signs were all made with large lolipops where I pasted messages and images on them. Candy was used to add a bright color and decorative element.
We had a great time. It took me a month to put this party together and I will cherish it for the rest of my life. What fun memories!
