I love Birthdays. I live for the parties of my little ones. However, I am not a fan of the over-dose on character themes. Browsing the internet for ideas, I came across HWTM member, Michelle Knox of  I Do invitations by Michelle. I LOVED her concept and decided to throw my "hire someone else to do the labor" part to the wind. Her work on her daughter's 2nd birthday inspired me to contact her and purchase her many items available on etsy (my new bff).  I had many, many questions to ask. She answered them with the kindess and grace of a friend I have had for years.

Using Michelle's idea incorporating polka dots, I googled several tutorials on ribbon wreaths, topiaries and  a "how to" on making a fabric wrapped canvas as a back-drop.  Considering that I send buttons to be re-sewn on a shirt to a dry-cleaner, I was pretty happy with the way my work turned out.

Luckily, baking has always been a passion on mine, and I baked the cupcakes, whoopie pies and brownie pops dipped in ganache myself. I'm pretty sure I've gained at least 5 pounds since the weekend!

Instead of traditional party gifts, I decided to give the kids something they would play with that their parents wouldn't want to throw away.  Each little girl was given a Sesame Street tee shirt, a tutu and a tulle wand to play with. The boys were given "pirate gear" of a bandana, telescope, hook for their hand, gold coins and an eye patch. They were also given a Sesame Street tee shirt to wear to keep with the spirit of the party. My daughter wore an amazing Elmo tee designed by Rachel with *golden* tees. Her work is not justified on the computer. I was thrilled with the detail and craftsmanship of the garmet. Thank you Michelle, for suggesting her! Leighton's tutu I special ordered from Tutugirls.com. Again, beautiful work. They craft each order by hand and it shows. I ordered her super-cute bloomers from Rufflebutts.com. I've been ordering from them for 3 years (before my Leighton was born) and they never disappoint.

I was going to set up work-shops for the kids to decorate their own cupcakes and decided instead to hire Dream Catcher Pony Parties to entertain them. I was provided with some super cute bunnies, a donkey, two goats and a pony so the little ones could have pony rides and play with the animals. It was a hit! And no, I didn't have to clean up after they left :)

A huge thank you from the bottom of my heart to the crazy talented, gracious and kind Michelle Knox of  I Do invitations by michelle. I can't thank you enough for your help, ideas and inspirtation. My house was transformed for a day by your work. I've never had so many compliments on the paper goods and invites, ever!!

Last but not least, thank you to my husband and family for the manic pace of prepping for the party. I couldn't have done it without your love and support and man-power (and for putting up with my non-stop birthday party chatter).  You guys are my heart and I love you very much!

Leighton Paige, you are my angel and I am so lucky to be your mommy. Happy Birthday, Sweetness!!
