I recently hosted a baby shower for one of my dearest friends from college, Rachel. Being that we all live in different states now, we gathered in the majority of our hometown of St. Louis. The venue, Salt, was chosen because it offered a unique space in an old Victorian home (once a funeral home if you can believe it) and serves a delicious farm-to-table menu. Since Rachel is having a “surprise” baby, has a deep love of owls (stemming from our sorority mascot and Rachel’s Texas roots) and favors bright, bold colors; the theme and color scheme came naturally. The invitations featured a grey and white chevron background with pops of bold orange and turquoise all tucked neatly into an orange envelope lined in steel grey. For the shower decor, chairs were decorated with shades of turquoise and orange ribbons with the place cards attached for each guest to find their seat. Each place setting was adorned with a colorful felt owl, based on a Martha Stewart template, and a Pumpkin Spice Caramel from Truffle Truffle to enjoy after brunch. Paper medallions in grey and white chevron and a handmade banner adorned the mantle while orange lilies and white roses were casually arranged in oversized, vintage blue mason jars purchased at Inspired Interiors and wrapped in twine (an easy DIY-touch). And for a "tweet", guests were served an adorable owl cake made by Sarah's Cake Shop, made to match the invitation, and encouraged to visit the Trail Mix Bar stocked with homemade granola, white chocolate, almonds and much more. So that Rachel remembered her special day, party-goers were asked to sign Little Owl and also give their best guess on what she will have. This will be a book that Rachel can keep in her nursery and treasure forever.
