I had planned for my 40th birthday for a long time and soooo many ideas flying around.

I came up with the vintage elegance theme as it is what I love.   I wanted a grown up party, one where people could come and get dressed up and have some fun.   My venue was perfect, it was in a restaurant in an old sandstone cottage located in parkland on the banks of Sydney Harbour.   I loved the room I had and decided that I wanted to use the sandstone walls to highlight the vintage dessert table.   I used my console table from my own home as the dessert table and from there I went to town!   Being a cake maker, the decision is always hard when coming to your own events.   The black and white theme was born when I sed paper doilies as the main inspiration.   The invitations I created were wrapped in paper doilies, as were the vases as the table centrepieces, the personalised menus and placecards, the gift bags and take home gifts and even the paper lanterns were festooned in paper doilies.

I had always loved the idea of a cake trio.  I only had 3 people, so I decided to make these as display cakes, as I was going to be making other sweet treats too.   The main cake was a 4 tiered ruffle cake, the 2nd cake featured a "quilled" design and the 3rd cake had cascading black petals down the side.  The other treats on offer were vanilla mocha macarons with chocolate ganache, black bloomed devils food cake pops and lemon poppyseed cupcakes with lemon scented buttercream.

All my beautiful cake stands, platters and party pieces were provided by Leanne at Sweet Style.

I also made DIY string chandeliers to hang above the tables. Marshmallow wool strands were draped off all the chairs.   Doily wrapped luminaries welcomed the guests from the gardens into the party room.   All the table decorations were created by me with large vases filled with fresh peonies and surrounded by candles of every height.   The table centrepieces were all mirrored and everything glowed in the candlelight.

As the night ended, the dessert table was opened and people got to eat and take home the sweet treats.   They also all got their very own cake in a jar to take home and eat and remember the beautiful night we had together.
