I designed this Sugar Plum Fairy birthday party for my daughter's best friend.  We decorated homemade gingerbread houses, played Pin the Crown on the Sugar Plum Fairy, and Nutcracker Limbo (at the birthday girl's special request).

The dessert table was so much fun to create.  I wanted it to look like a stage production of the Nutcracker, and found a winter scene photography backdrop on Craigslist that was absolutely perfect.  Some velvet curtains, leftover wood flooring sitting in our garage for the "stage," and booklight stage lights added to the theatrical effect.  All the treats on the dessert table evoked characters or scenes from the Nutcracker ballet, too.  Russian (Dancer) tea cakes.  Real sugar plums.  A forest of glittery, edible trees.  Sparkling pointe shoe cookies.  A gingerbread house.  Cupcakes adorned with edible snowflakes.    "Snow" filled Krumkake.  Rosettes dusted with powdered sugar that looked like snowflakes and tasted like funnel cake.

For favors, the girls each had an apron with a Swarovski rhinestone snowflake, the gingerbread house she decorated (of course!), a pair of fairy wings and sparkling flower hairclip from a fairy makeover when they arrived, and a homemade christmas cracker with a Swarovski crystal necklace (given when they left the party).

My favorite decorative element, though, was the installation of giant quilled snowflakes I made and hung from the ceiling above the dessert table.  I love it when the idea in my head turns out like I imagine it!
