Event Details:
For my Halloween table I knew I wanted to create paper designs and style a photoshoot that didn't include your typical black and orange color palette. Then on a visit to Home Goods I stumbled upon what came to be the inspiration for the Birds of a Feather theme: Feathered Trees! They were ruffly, had a hint of sparkle and a fun color combo. Just what I was looking for! I knew at this point, I was going to make feathers the focal point.
From there I searched for coordinating treats and worked with Bundles of Cookies and kCreative Cake pops for the perfect additions. I used Pinterest as a resource and made the ‘spooky‘ dessert sushi and chocolate birds nests with silver eggs along with the cupcakes.
The backdrop was constructed using a 48x60 canvas and a custom made glossy photograph that I had printed with the spooky woods scene to create a 'looking out the window' effect. The canvas was draped with black curtains from Target and dyed cheesecloth.
The printable paper designs took on a vintage feel and were designed to coordinate with the festive backdrop and purple and black color palette.
At the time of this shoot I did not find this little addition to be story to be humorous, however I am glad I can now look back and smile (a little) and have walked away with a lesson learned! Read on to see just what happened..
"My original shoot was scheduled in September, the table was set, the cookies, the pops, cupcakes, the decor- everything was just as I had envisioned and I was more than pleased with my efforts. And then the backdrop came crashing down and literally broke everything on the table 30 minutes before my photographer arrived. After I was able to truly grasp what had happened before my eyes I realized that I did not secure the canvas to the table. So, lesson learned and I re-made everything and salvaged what I could and persevered. Birds of a Feather was the photo shoot that almost wasn’t!
