A Black, White & Yellow Spring Baby Shower (35 photos)
When I was expecting my second son, one thing I knew for sure is that I didn't want another blue-inspired baby shower (I'm not "traditional" when it comes to gender-related colors anyway...) Since the shower was going to be held in May, I thought having a brunch and decorating with yellow and white would be perfect to welcome and celebrate the spring as well! I threw in little punches of black for a more sophisticated (and boyish, if you will) look. I did a mix of patterns (dots, stripes, damask...) throughout, from the muffin liners to ribbons, tablecloth, pennant flags and even an ironing board cover (more on that below.) Another source of inspiration was my baby's black and white sonogram, which I used on the invitation as a take on a photo booth strip. I also used his ultrasound pictures as drink bottle labels and framed the invitation inside a white mat/passe-partout for guests to leave baby welcoming messages.
Baby photos of me and my husband printed in black and white inside a yellow polka dot frame adorned the center of the table. As for party favors, I filled small spice jars with my homemade granola, which was also available for guests to savor at the brunch (with yogurt or plain, by the spoonful! I provide the recipe on my blog.)
I set a "laundry-like" area where my friends could customize baby a shirt or bodysuit with iron-on fabric appliqués. For that I put together H&M organic white baby shirts in several sizes, appliqués found at Etsy, a small ironing board which I "dressed" with a cute cover found on Etsy as well, a metal bucket and clothespins which I painted in yellow and white dots. And an iron, of course :-)
