When my daughter suggested a Sprinkles themed birthday party for her 3rd birthday, I was delighted. YES! SPRINKLES! Now why didn't I think of that??? What a fun birthday party this was to put together.
I used about 12 pounds of sprinkles throughout the affair (thank goodness for being able to buy in bulk at the restaraunt supply)! In the vases, in the candles, holding the straws and the forks, in the food displays. And of course, in all the food.
Dinner was pizza made with "sprinkle cheese," cooked in the wood fired oven I built in our backyard. The desserts stole the show, however. Classic homemade funfetti cake covered in sprinkles was the centerpiece, topped with an edible, sprinkle covered number 3 cake topper. We also served two kinds of sugar cookies, brigadeiros (caramely chocolatey south american confections), cotton candy embedded with sprinkles, strawberry cheesecake bites, funfetti cake batter fudge, sweet and salty sprinkle covered pretzels, a donut topiary, and strawberry sprinkle kisses.
Sprinkle punch (sprite with multi-colored ice cubes of different juice and Koolaid flavors) kept the kids hydrated.
For activities, we made sprinkle paintings on real canvases, and sprinkle maracas. A sprinkle covered pinata was a hit too, of course. And nothing can top a bouncy house for hours of play.
This was a completely DIY affair. I made the food, I made the birthday girl's outfit, I made the decor, I took the photographs. I bought the pinata at Party City, but otherwise, this was a one woman show!
