Recently graduated with high honors, Kristen is destined to head to out West. She's a beauty with brains, perusing studies in journalism, rides a long board to class and soaks up all things SoCal. The party had to be all about Orange County... sand, surf, skate, and school! Kristen had the theme, her sisters and friends had the talent, Mom & Dad picked up the ticket, and Million Dollar $mile took a little time to organize. PS. Kristen was a former student of mine way back in the sixth grade. No wonder why she is so stinkin' smart?!
In Arizona, we’re no strangers to heat or palm trees so adding a splash of Cali was a breeze. We decorated with a little surf (blue-colored water in vases), a little sand (brown sugar is oh, so sweet), shells, and of course, oranges (gotta represent the OC)! As guests arrived, they found apothecaries filled with beachy treats and a highway sign proclaiming, “Welcome to California”! Each guest wrote a message for Kristen on a piece of paper and slid it into a bottle. Whether she sends them out to sea or not, guests could certainly find a few proud words for this young lady.
The Dessert Table:
Amongst a backdrop of vintage-striped fabric displayed photos captured by Kristen on her various trips to “visit” schools in Southern California. Looks like she had a tough choice, huh? We used her favorite long board as the centerpiece of the table and two others to display various treats and eats. Two living palm trees and throwback Mountain Dew boxes gave the table the vintage Surf City feel that draws Kristen to the sandy coast. Rice Krispie sand goodies and beach cupcakes were decorated with mini umbrellas for shade under the sun. Big Blue Sea Jell-O cups hid sweet Swedish fish gummies and the friendliest starfish cookies begged to be bitten. But, the true beauties on the beach were the custom made and decorated cake pops, intricately decorated with bikini-clad bears, fondant lounge chairs and surfboards, and the most adorable smiley fish and turtles. Jones’ sodas with polka-dot straws were sipped by high school grads ready for summer vacation.
