For our little girl's first birthday we decided to transform our backyard into a Cupcake Shoppe themed party-land that was just as sweet as she is. The colors were vibrant fuscia and purple with a pop of red. Almost everything was home-made, from the backdrop of the dessert table (a DIY project we, Mom and Dad, put together with PVC piping Dad assembled to make the frame and fabric sewn on by Mom to make the awning), to the buffet signs, to the birthday cake (first attempt by Mom to frost a cake that turned out great!), to the pendant banner over the cupcake, cupcake toppers, and buffet signs (all hand-made by Mom using printables from Big Day Invitations), to the cupcake liner DIY pompom centerpieces (which Mom and Aunt Donna made to look like large cupcakes and propped on top of spray painted white tall candlesticks to add height), to the cupcake sidewalk chalk party favors (they looked so real, many thought they were candy! But the kids loved them)! We had a kids table (complete with a plastic table cloth to keep the gorgeous linen from A-1 Party Rentals from being damaged) where the kids could decorate their own Bakery Chef's hats with paint, markers and foam stickers. The next activity was decorating cupcakes, of course! Mom pre-baked cupcakes for the kids to pipe frosting on (Mom instructed them how to make the perfect rose swirl, to match the birthday cake design) and then the kids added a variety of sprinkles from mason jars to their heart's content. We had delicious catering from TPC Valencia's Executive Chef, Daniel Otto, and Chef Dustin Boole with summery offerings such as a fresh shrimp and scallop ceviche appetizer, corn on the cob, lemon and herb chicken, red oven roasted potatoes, a spring salad station that included toppings such as grapes, Asian pears, and candied pecans with champagne vinaigrette, plus the very kid friendly, but also adult pleasing Macaroni and Cheese (our daughter loves all the items on our menu, which is also why we picked them). The dessert table was filled to the brim with home-made treats (lovingly baked by Mom, Aunt Donna, Aunt Shanil, Aunt Karen and Grandma Lepe, plus cupcakes from Susie Cakes Bakery contributed by The Shin family) that the kids and adults could enjoy. It truly was a decadent sweet shoppe and a first birthday party our daughter, friends, and family will not soon forget! The best part, our daughter saying, "Wow" when she first saw all the decorations (priceless)! We are so thankful for our wonderful family and friends who made this day so memorable and amazing for us and our little cupcake Naomi! (Special thanks to Aunt Donna for staying up and working tirelessly with Mom to get all these detailed projects done. You are a craft and cupcake warrior!)
