My sons are exactly 3 years apart almost to the day so each year I combine their birthdays. This year I let the boys choose their theme and they decided on an Australian theme. The Australian colors can be interpreted 2 ways either green & yellow or like the flag RED, WHITE and BLUE. I decided to go with red, white and blue as I love that color combination. I chose white table clothes which helped make everything pop. I held the party at the COOP in Studio City which is the BEST space in town to have a party. I wanted to do a cool desert bar so I bought some plan wooden crates which I found for a song at the local thrift store and then I painted them white. I put striped paper on the top and wrapped them with star ribbon. I used the crates to hold my little milk bottles which I also found at the thrift shop as well as to put my lollipops in. For the base for the lollipops I used red licorice which really looked amazing and yummy too! I had the incredible Julie of Blue Cupcakes take care of the deserts and they truly were amazing from the gorgeous cakes with aspects of the Australian flag as the topper to the vibrant red and blue macaroons. I also asked Julie to do little red, white and blue parfaits which looked adorable with the red and white ribbon. I found great vases for my flowers from Ikea and filled them with beautiful white peonies. For the outside buffet table I used empty vegemite jars as vases which was perfect and a great way to reuse the plastic jar. I also made some blue jello cups and put a gummy shark in each one with a sign saying no swimming the kids loved it.
