We just celebrated our son's 1st birthday with an outdoor movie night with all of our friends and family. There was a "concession" table for the kids and adults to gather all kinds of goodies from, such as, "popcorn" cupcakes, "movie reel" red velvet cupcakes, chocolate covered pretzels, lollipops from lollipop trees, brownie bite stars, and a TON of movie theater boxed candy. The centerpiece was the most gorgeous cake I ever could have imagined made by Cakes by Colleen Craig of hammonton, NJ. The 2 bottom tiers were "movie reels" with b&w pictures of our son going around the reels and the top tier was a popcorn box that we used as the "smash cake." I made some banners for the party: "Lights, Camera, Action, Jaxon." Which was perfect since we call my son, "Action Jaxon." I also made one that said, "Our Little Star." Our menu consisted of mostly "movie theater" type foods, such as, a build-you-own hot dog station that I got the great idea to use from HWTM! We also had baked beans and baked macaroni and ceasar salad as sides. We had pretzel nuggets and nachos and cheese, too, to keep with the theme. I displayed movie tickets in apothecary jars around the house as decor and we borrowed a popcorn machine from a family friend. My husband built the outdoor movie screen from some leftover wood he had and a plain white sheet. I also had my husband build a s'mores station that I found the idea from on pinterest. The kids and adults got to make s'mores while they watched the movie.. it was a perfect ending to a wonderful day!
