"Under the Sea" Baby Shower
The gathering was in honor of Jen and her soon to be baby. We had a GORGEOUS setting to work with and with a few tricks of the trade it turned out to be even more stunning than we had hoped. We kept it gender neutral as the mom-to-be did not find out beforehand if baby was a boy or a girl.
We started with the "Under the Sea" theme and enlisted the design expertise of Brooklyn graphic designer, Meghan Hopkins Sokorai to create invitations for the baby shower. The invitation combines a painterly watercolor feel with beautiful hand lettering, with illustrated mama and baby whales. Set for a sunny day in June, the invitations and decor were inspired by the shower’s destination, a beautiful waterfront home in Rumson, New Jersey. With the request for a whale theme and peach and turquoise color scheme, Meghan honored our ideas and ran with them. Her mama and baby whales became the faces of the shower.
Our first purchase was baby onesies via Etsy, custom made with a turquoise whale, peach seahorse, and yellow octopus. We carried those colors through other details, filling vases with hydrangeas cut from the home's gardens. Colorful linens covered the tables, and fun "whale" prints were framed to decorate the area.
Mini whale soaps served as favors and a lovely cake decorated with a whale, octopus, and starfish stole the show for dessert.
Activities: "Dear Baby" cards for guests to fill out (also made by Meghan), BINGO, Celebrity Baby Name Match Up
