Froggie Themed 3rd Birthday Party (10 photos)
The froggy party theme was requested / demanded by my 2-year old son, Prescott. He wanted nothing more than to have a party with frogs everywhere...so I turned to Rebekah Leach Dempsey at A Blissful Nest for a color scheme and pattern. We started with the adorable invitation, and designed the party from there.
DIY project #1: Our backyard pool was turned into "Prescott's Pad", complete with a custom-designed photo booth, and cattails around the 'pond.' My husband designed the stand for less than $10 using PVC pipe and zip-ties. The frog was drawn and painted to match the party invitations.
Food included push-up pops with grapes and blueberries, because we like to keep our frogs healthy. Green speckled popcorn was a huge hit! Bottled water and juice boxes were super cute with the labels. We grilled burgers and hot dogs too.
DIY project#2: Green foam hats purchased at Michael's for $1 each (clearance) were easily turned into "frogs" by cutting green foam circles and using black marker to make the eyes and mouth.
The tablecloth was almost an identical match to the invitation, a 'just-by-luck' find at the fabric store for about $8/yard.
DIY project #3 - I recently attended an event in NYC where another event planner used these fun tissue flower balls in her display. I became obsessed with making them for the party. They were time-consuming but so worth it because they are so cute. Rolled crepe paper, hot glue and a styrofoam ball...and a ton of patience!
The homemade cupcakes were such a huge hit at the party - rolled fondant frogs, with Prescott's wearing a crown! Blue buttercream frosting and chocolate/peanut butter "flies." Cupcakes made by Cathy Wescott, grandmother to the birthday boy.
Favors included miniature frog notebooks, sticky frogs, homemade play dough and water balloons.
