Every year my husband and I throw our annual party two weeks prior to Thanksgiving. It's a huge sit down potluck dinner with our closest friends and the perfect way to kick off the holiday season.

This year's decorations were inspired when I inherited a bunch of doilies from my grandmother. Having seen the adorable doily lamp all over pintrest, I decided to give it a try using the following tutorial: I purchased a punch balloon 16" in diameter, a 36" round balloon and clear wallpaper glue. A few days later I had one smaller lamp which I hung above the dessert table, and a huge lamp which I displayed next to one of the seating areas. I then took my remaining doilies and created one long table runner assembling doilies of various sizes together. The shades of ivory and white looked fabulous against the pewter grey linens.

For flowers and table decor I wanted to add natural elements which included seed pod flowers, sola wood flowers, cotton bolls still on the stick, and sand blasted grape wood. Other floral elements included orange roses, white wax flower, white scabiosa flowers, scabiosa pods, orange berries, seeded eucalyptus, white ranunculus, orange ranunculus, juliet garden roses, dusty miller and sage green succulents. Flower arrangements were placed in silver square containers which added a touch of glam. Other decorative items included large mercury glass hurricane vases with pillar candles and ice blue vintage inspired votive holders. Around the low brick walls which circled the yard, I had clusters of cylinder vases filled with water and floating candles and alternated with mercury glass hurricane vases.

Over the years I have collected a ton place settings of 1950's hostess snack plates made from the federal glass company courtesy of goodwill. Each place setting also had a small cluster of flowers to match the decor. For the children's table, I used mason jars as sippy cups, punching a hole in the lid and adding a straw along with a chalkboard label for each child.

The dessert table had used white sliding doors that had come off from our laundry room. I then braided various strands of yarn to create a garland, and displayed desserts on some vintage cake stands and suitcases. Desserts included a layered cranberry pudding which is a recipe passed down from my Grandma T. and a paleo recipe of chocolate avocado pudding with cashew creme courtesy of Nikki Orth.

For the cold drink table, I had a basil lemonade and iced tea being displayed in apothecary drink dispensers I purchased at Z Gallery and an alcoholic beverage of basil vodka gimlets for the adults in a pitcher. Hot drinks included our annual mulled cider with optional applejack.
