Hostess With The Mostess

My youngest brother, Nicholas, turned eleven this October.  I planned a pinata party, made the decorations and food myself, and co-hosted the party with my mother.

We had pinata invitations, printed for free from Lovevsdesign.com.

For games and entertainment, I created a punch box inspired by this pin: Parties & Decorating / punch box.  I also decorated a glass jar with pom-poms, filled it with Skittles, and had each child guess how many were in the jar - the closest guess took the jar home.  (Inspired by this pin: Parties & Decorating / Birthday idea.)  Outside, we had a giant board game per request from the birthday boy, as well as a Bible character scavenger hunt.  All the guests were friends from Nicholas's church class, so I wrote the names of Bible characters and hid the next clue in an associated area - for example, "Mary mother of Jesus" led them to the baby dolls.

Food included a lollipop centerpiece.  (Inspired by this pin: Parties & Decorating / kids parties lollipops.)  I created giant pinata cookies, which had mini M&Ms hidden inside.  (Tutorial: Cinco de Mayo piñata cookies)

The living and dining room were the main party areas, so I decorated with blue and orange streamers.  In keeping with our theme, I made miniature pull-string pinatas and strung them into a garland - they served as decor, and at the end of the party, each guest pulled their own pinata string. (Tutorial: Pull Piñata Garland)  I also decorated paper bags with fringed tissue paper to emulate a pinata, and their pinata candy and lollipops went home in these favor bags.  (Inspired by this pin: Parties & Decorating / Paper Sack Piñata)

According to the birthday boy and his guests, the party was a great success!
