Joel's Half Birthday Celebration
My nephew, Joel, has a December birthday. Since my sister-in-law Marjorie wanted to begin celebrating his one-and-a-half birthday in June as well to help offset the holiday madness in December, I thought it would be a fun time to create a new birthday set and celebrate Joel's new special day. The busy summer seemed to be so crowded with events that we wouldn't be able to schedule Joel's party. Within less than two weeks we were able to plan an intimate party on a budget for the Joel's first annual Half Birthday Party!
The party was very small and informal with only 11 people attending the party. We had the party at my mother- and father-in-law's house since that is where the birthday boy and his parents were staying during their visit. We ate pizza and goodies from the small dessert table, which featured cupcakes made by Maggie's Wild Flours.
Earlier that week Marjorie picked out some zoo party dinner plates at Target to use for the theme of the party. Joel also loves pinwheels and the color orange, so that is where the ideas came for the printable set and decorations. (Thankfully, the giraffe on the party plate was orange! A perfect match!) I was able to use my milk glass items and cupcake stand for the dessert table. I made some signs to liven up the party as well as some pennants that I hung around the living room. I took two glass cylinders, filled them up with animal crackers and then placed orange pinwheels in them for the dessert table.
Maggie took the theme and ran with it...the cupcakes were completely her creation after viewing the party plates. We were all very impressed especially since Maggie is a talented baker who is going to be a junior in high school!
I plan on offering the party items in my Etsy shop soon. Check it out at moderninvites.etsy.com.
