I host a yearly themed dinner party. This year's theme was nautical. I chose Blue and Yellow for the colors and I really didn't want it to feel childish, although I still wanted to add some whimsical elements. I sent out the invites and asked the guests to wear something with a nautical feel.I had gob hats ready for everyone and the captain's hat was for my husband. I found this awesome striped material that had the yellow and blue incorporated together and used it as a table runner paired with some blue and white tablecloths I had. I took tiny blue bags and decotated them with a rubber stamp and ribbon to not only be the place cards, but that would have a little surprise inside, two chocolate truffles. When my guests arrived they were directed to the appetizer station where I had a variety of seafood elements nicely displayed such as coconut shrimp, crab dip with crackers, crab filled mushrooms, bacon wrapped scallops, and a ceviche in shooter glasses paired with a nice sauvignon blanc I also made a signature coctail that I appropiately named Poseidon which my guests loved. Then it was dinner time - Surf and Turf which consisted of a 4oz filet mignon per guest with a delicious red wine reduction and a shrimp scampy to die for paired with a smooth Pinot Noir. For the sides I had seasoned red potatoes and asparragus with a light bechamel sauce. I made a dessert table with a yummy chocolate fudge cake that served as the tables centerpiece decorated with fondant to match the theme, red velvet pops, marshmallow pops that I couldn't resist and had to add little sales to the stick. I also made a chocolate fudge trifle placed it shooter glasses, cookies in the shape of sale boats, chocolate covered strawberries. I had created a nice playlist with music appropriate to the theme that made you feel (Im actually quoting my friends) that you were actually a the seashore although my little party was at my tiny apartment. Then when everyone had enjoyed the feast, we switched to dance music and that is how we ended the evening.
