I would give my mother the Boho dinner plates. Although she can afford better now, to this day, my mother continues to use a motley collection of Corningware acquired through the years, both for their practicality (difficult to break) and affordability. I would like her to experience the small joy of using a real collection of plates that are both pretty and “impractical”.

[not sure that my first comment went through]

All of my mother’s dishes are white and practical except for one pretty ice cream bowl she uses very sparingly. When she does use it, she smiles secretly to herself and you can tell it really makes her happy (and feel lovely). I would love to gift her the Boho plates as they will bring a welcome splash of color to her collection and because I know she will adore them as much as her ice cream bowl.

I would love to give my mom the 12 days of Christmas appetizer plates. Last year, she hand painted a beautiful set of juice glasses for each of my sister and I. Each glass was one of the Twelve days of Christmas. She finally finished a set for herself to use. I can see her setting the table Christmas morning with both the plates and glasses. The bright colors and sweet pictures would look perfect together. I would willing give my set to her, just as long as I get to eat off the eighth day!

  149. Anonymous November 14, 2007 at 12:56 pm

My sister-in-law is the coolest, most stylish, craftiest person I know. She’s like Martha, but not so perfect; like you could have a beer with her while icing the pomogrante cupcakes she just whipped up without secretly hating her for her talents. Anyway, she gives the best gifts and I would love to give her the Cotwold large platter. I think she would flip, as it’s right up her style alley!

  150. aba November 14, 2007 at 1:02 pm

  159. leahviolet November 14, 2007 at 2:02 pm

I would want to give the 12 days of Christmas appetizer plates, but could not choose between my mother, sister and dear sister-in-law, so I would divide the set I would receive along with the second set.

  160. Tara November 14, 2007 at 2:10 pm

I’ve always loved the numbered set myself (came very close to buying it several times!) but I would pick the twelve days and give it to my mother-in-law – she’s absolutely the best and athough she can’t do all that much decorating in their small apartment, I know this set would simply bring her to tears (in a good way ;)

  173. jamie aka socialite shops too much November 14, 2007 at 4:09 pm

OH I would most definitely pick the boho desseret plates! I have been obsessed with them for months! I would be very selfish and keep them for myselfs although I would DEFINITELY have many friends over for dinners. They would also look fabulous for baby showers–luckily I have many friends popping out babies left and right (to whom I will play the favorite “aunt” and hopefully I will be blessed with little chubby babies of my own one day)!

And to whom would you love to give this holiday? My mother of course! I can’t think of a single person that I would rather give such fabulous plates to–her home is the center of all family gatherings and with be for years to come. Of course they would NOT be at the grandkid’s table!

  174. pbelle November 14, 2007 at 6:08 pm

I would give the Natura Tea for one set to my sister in law. She loves birds and has two-year-old twins, so I would like for her to be able to sit down and relax and enjoy a cup of tea with this lovely set.

  176. Deborah November 14, 2007 at 6:56 pm

My daughter, Meg turns 25 on Christmas Eve. I think it is time for her to have some “grown up” dinnerware. Dinner Party in chocolate and/or ice blue reflects her emerging style point of view.

Thanks, Rosanna Inc., for playing nice with this fun and generous giveaway!

    My best,

  177. Tiffany M November 14, 2007 at 7:21 pm

  188. A Lazar Soirée November 15, 2007 at 7:36 am

I’d like to give the 12 days of christmas plates to my mom. My mom escaped an abusive marriage many years ago and had to leave everything behind. In the years since she’s always commented on the fact that she’d really like to have a set of christmas dishes like she did before she left my father.

  189. Melissa November 15, 2007 at 7:57 am

Those Dauphine Candlesticks in white would be perfect for my Secret Santa recipient! I can’t tell you who it is because it’s a secret. ;-)

  190. curlyhairedmegan November 15, 2007 at 8:32 am

I would get the little black dress plates for my little cousin. Okay, she’s not that little, she’s 18… but she’s littler than I am! She wants to be a fashion designer and these plates would be great daily inspiration for her!!

  191. Amanda November 15, 2007 at 8:56 am

I would like to give the wine tasting appetizer plate set to my sister in law. She is in Minneaplois for an internship away from friends, family and her husband this Christmas. We have a wine club at home and I thought this would be perfect to remind her that we miss her and of our fun wine club!

  192. Meredith November 15, 2007 at 9:21 am

My mother collects “12 days of Christmas” anything….what a wonderful addition this would be to her collection!

  193. Rosie November 15, 2007 at 9:37 am

Wow. Those 12 Days appetizer plates are stunning. As soon as I saw the picture, I thought of my childhood and baking cookies with my mom. We’d spend hours and hours baking and decorating in detail. Every year she arranges special personalized cookies on plates for everyone to munch from while we open a gift at midnight. So excited to see these!
I love the Rosanna pieces – i have the Birthday plates and platters and use them for every birthday party!
As for my favorite Rosanna piece from the collection – i’d have to say I love the Wine Country Large platter. Perfect for entertaining!

  194. Julie November 15, 2007 at 10:19 am

The olive oil printed plates – simply because one says Italy and I’d give them to my cousin Giuseppe in Boston since she’s from Sicily and I know she gets homesick!

  195. Elisha R November 15, 2007 at 10:43 am

What an excellent contest. I would give my next door neighbor, Violet, who has reached the wise age of one and a half years the “Tea for Me, Too” Child Tea set. Everyday I am greated with a smile on her face and would like to show my appreciation. “Each day is a gift, why else would it be called the present?”-Anonymous

Due to my Mom’s shortage of glasses, and her endearing ability to “make do” with posterior-shaped cups, I tend to think that a set of Bon Voyage mugs, in particular, would make a suitable and much appreciated gift for her.

Tonight, over the phone, I intentionally wandered onto the subject of dinnerware with my Mom–particularly *her* dinnerware. I was curious about all she had stored in her cupboards. We spoke of her chipped plates, and her smallish flimsy bowls, but right away the focus turned to the status and quality of her drinkware. The following is a highly stylized–yet fully fact-based–account of our “chalice and vessel” conversation:

MOM: . . . [Speaking of her drinkware.] Yes, all the same color and design would be nice. Instead, they are all mismatched–there are pieces from different sets. We really don’t use *a* set.
ME: Oh? What do you use, then?
MOM: Well, you know, different things. For one, your Dad’s colossal Over the Hill beer mug, and then there’s the personalized photo mug we got at the mall–you know, the one with Nana’s face on it? A few colored Tupperware cups [i.e. the ones she’s employed since I was a kid. The ones with melted-down rims and shallow, brown burn holes at the bottoms–victims of Dad’s neglected cigarettes], and just some standard Working glasses. Oh, and the butt mug.
    ME: . . . Butt mug?
MOM: Yes, remember, the mug that is flesh-colored and shaped like a butt from Spencer’s [gross-out novelty shop]? The one that says “Kiss my *!$%@#, I’m 40!”–another gift someone bought your Dad.
    ME: Wow, Mom.
MOM: I know, I know. We don’t seem to have enough glasses around, so mostly we’ve been drinking out of the recycled tuna jars from the pantry.
    ME: Oh dear.

It wasn’t just the thought of my Mom drinking out of ceramic asses that led me to conclude she needs these mugs. I also believe the Bon Voyage set befits her personality and a promise she and I hold to one another, a dream we hope to realize: that we will someday, somehow, travel together. Of all the many places and cities we desire to travel to, Paris and New York–two of the Bon Voyage destinations–are among the top favorites.

The beach bottles would look great in my Grandma’s living room!

  312. Olive the Pug November 17, 2007 at 9:00 am

My mother of course! She would love the Victoriana collection… especially the globe vase and pedestal bowl. I can imagine her with some lovely buds in the vase and cookies or treats in the bowl, on the tray along with some tea. It’s the little things that make everyday events like a cup of tea more special:)

My sister would love the Boho Dinner plates. She is about to graduate college and needs some items something more mature but still fun for the new post-college phase of her life.

There are so many sets that I love but it’s the Chelsea Flowers that I keep coming back to because I could see myself giving any of the pieces in the collection to many of the special people in my life. In the end, I think my Mom would love the dessert plates, though if I could, I would give her the whole collection.

  323. Mrs.Kwitty November 17, 2007 at 3:39 pm

Oh my gosh! So many beautiful things to pick from! I think I would have to choose a set of red dots coffee cups–for my sis-in-law who makes a mean cup of Joe but has the saddest collection of miscellaneous cups you’ve ever seen!
    Smiles, Karen

I would LOVE to be able to give my “baby” sister the Chelsea Flowers set. Our family has had a lot of obstacles over the past few years including the divorce of our parents, resulting money problems and a major illness. Despite this, she has managed to trudge through it all, finish school and finally land her dream job. She is moving into her first apartment next weekend and we are all sooo proud of her and her accomplishments.
I know that this set would be a great way to remind her to take time for herself, enjoy being the girly-girl that she is and enjoy her accomplishments. :)

I am almost certain that if I was to give my mother in law the Famille A Table set she might forgive me for taking her baby boy away and moving him across the states….not only would she forgive me, I would be her favorite.

  342. Officer Oliver December 4, 2007 at 10:14 am

My wife made me come to this site….She wanted almost every collection. (She adores the La Petite Black Dress collection and “has to have” Rococo Noir teapot and pedestals) She is an amazing mom and wife, and I would love to give her anything she wanted. I hope I win so she will see how much I appreciate all that she does for our family.

Wow, the Rosanna that I own is stunning and I get compliments on it all the time. I would probably get the dessert plates with the cupcakes for my girls (5 years old and 9 years) because they love to bake and they would be very excited to have something like that for themselves.
