Heidi and Patrick’s late spring wedding featured a burst of colors with Latin flair and medley of characters from every corner the world. It was a jubilant, diverse celebration, chock full of personal touches and reflections of their worldly experiences.

Set at the bride’s family ranch in Angels Camp, the expansive, creekside lawn set under acres of oak trees, was perfectly fitting for the festivities.

The groom wore a handmade suit from Al’s Attire, a vintage clothing shop in San Francisco (see personalized tag inside the jacket), and even though the bride had already chosen a dress, she fell in love with another one right before the wedding while accompanying the groom to pick up his suit at the shop. She wore the second dress, created just for her, for dinner and dancing.

The short but sweet wedding ceremony was purely heartfelt and completely engaging. The bride and groom each had their sisters only at their sides in lieu of traditional attendants, in addition to the flowergirls who wore ‘yukata’ (Japanese summer kimonos).

Both the bride and groom lived in Japan for several years (before ever meeting), so it was important to incorporate elements from their overseas history. The song they recessed to after being pronounced husband and wife was an unexpected, lively Japanese song called “Banzai.”

The bride explains the reason behind the song selection in the program:

Why the crazy Japanese song?” you might ask. Although the Japanese tend to be formal and reserved, there are times when they like to shout out for joy. “Banzai” will frequently be heard during celebrations, somewhat akin to Americans yelling out “Hooray!” or “Yeehaaw!” We chose this song to complete our ceremony not only because it brings back fond memories of belting out happy karaoke songs in Japan, but it also happens to perfectly portray our feelings on our wedding day. The lyrics express a young man’s realization that he’s found the love of his life, and the chorus is his exclamation of joy: “Banzai! I’m so glad I’ve found you! From here on out, it’s you and me, happy together forever!”

The dinner tables featured colorful pink and green runners, made by the mother of the bride, bright blossoms in mason jars and chilled flat water served in recycled wine and liquor bottles, all collected by the bride and groom throughout their engagement.

The 15 plus course family style menu, featuring an array of organic local vegetables and meats, paired with the setting under the canopy of oaks and along the babbling brook, was dining al fresco at its finest.

To signify the ending of dinner, the bride’s Japanese family led a traditional clapping ceremony, and invited everyone up for dancing on the patio.

In lieu of a traditional first dance, the bride and groom performed a sizzling salsa lesson. The Puerto Rican band out of San Francisco, called Manicato, was oozing with energy and talent. The dance floor was alive from the moment they began. A few guests (including the bride!) dashed on stage and sang a couple songs, which according to the groom was “just the right touch of karaoke cheese to get everybody smiling!”

The celebration extended into the wee hours of the morning; the glee and excitement was contagious.

I love the ideas of green weddings, why not encourage your guests to plant trees. Give tree seedlings or kits as favors to inspire everyone for future generations.

I saw these adorable gerber daisy seed kits and seed favors on this site. The colors match this wedding and they would be great favors with these colors and theme. I like the idea of gerber daisiies for centerpeices too.
