PARTY DETAILS, as told by Courtney…

Every season, my husband and I host a party to celebrate what we love about that season: the food, music and decor are all tied to our favorite things of that time of year. Last year, our party was the weekend before Valentines Day, so I decided to switch up our normal wintery-white decor and go with a fun red & white heart Valentine inspired party. Our winter party is always a soup potluck, so each couple brings a delicious soup to share. My husband makes a delicious sangria and we also have seasonal appetizers and desserts.

I love to have an interactive element to all of our parties, so for this party, I cut a huge heart out of red & white striped wrapping paper (that I got for 50 cents after Christmas!) and attached it to the wall. We had guests write what they love about winter and attach it to the heart. It served as a guest book of sorts and everyone loved reading what our friends had written.

I decorated soup cups with bakers twine and stamps and made simple heart garlands to hang over the table. For linens, I used white sheets that I already had to save on cost. I also used the striped wrapping paper to cover the food table- such a cheap, fun way to add some pop to the decor. I made mini banners for our banner stands that said “we *heart* soup” and “we *heart* winter”. I dressed up some plain glass votives with glitter, yarn & ribbon.
