Kids Thanksgiving Craft: Colorful Pinecone Turkeys

pinecone turkeys

You know how some things just take a year to get to? Ya… me too. ;)

Last year I made these fun Stuffed Glove Turkeys, which were a great craft for the kids that also doubled as kid-friendly party decor. But I also made one more Thanksgiving craft that never got posted… until now! These cute Pinecone Turkeys are a breeze to make and you can use any color or pattern of paper to make them perfectly match your own Thanksgiving decor.

Added bonus: depending on where you live – you can make this project even more fun by kicking it off with an outdoor scavenger hunt for fallen pinecones! Whoever finds the biggest one gets a fun little prize. But don’t worry – craft store pinecones work just as well… being a San Diegan myself, that’s where these little guys started out!

pinecone turkey craft for thanksgiving

– Scissors
– Pinecone
– Candy Eyes or Plastic “Googly” Eyes
– Patterned Paper (Our Grateful Tree paper pack was used here.)
– Hot Glue*
*you can also use small pieces of 3D glue dots in place of hot glue if very little ones are involved!

1. Cut patterned paper into simple leaf shapes to act as “turkey feathers”. Use assorted colors for a playful look, and don’t worry about being perfect with the shapes & sizes – a little variety makes the overall look more crafty and fun!
2. Cut mini triangles for the turkey beak.
3. Glue on the eyes and beak.
4. Insert the “feathers” into the back of the pinecone. They will often stay put pretty well on their own, but you can always glue them for extra security.
