Artistic Ombre & Watercolor Horse Birthday Party
Beth Kruse of Beth Kruse Custom Creations created this AMAZING Ombre & Watercolor Horse Party for her daughter, who has similar interests to Saige, and American Girl Doll with some awesome hobbies!
Focused around horses and painting, this pretty party included a fantastic canvas painting activity, featuring a horse silhouette sticker in the center. After the guests were done painting their canvases, the silhouette stickers were peeled off, leaving them with beautiful, negative-space works of art. Just check out the cool gallery they created in the images below!
PARTY HIGHLIGHTS to look out for:
- Sunset-inspired colors, highlighted in the pink and orange ombre cake & bright party printables
- DIY glittered paintbrushes + cute painter’s palettes to display individual cupcakes and toppings
- Watercolor mini buntings adorning the adorable DIY paper lantern ‘hot air balloons
- Chocolate dipped ‘paintbrush’ rice krispy treats & a DIY ‘chalkboard’ horse backdrop made from foam core

PARTY DETAILS as told by Beth…
For my daughter’s 9th birthday, she asked for the American Girl doll of the year, Saige. Like my daughter, Saige loves to paint and ride horses, so we decided to plan her party around those things!
For the food table, we highlighted Saige and her favorite things. The “chalkboard” horse backdrop was actually black foam core! All of the printables I designed for the party were made to look like watercolor to highlight the painting aspect.
The main activity at the party was painting a canvas with a horse cutout. The girls painted the whole canvas and then when they were done, we peeled the horse off and the white horse shape was left.

Thank you so much for the feature! i am beyond thrilled to be part of your beautiful website!
Can you tell me what you used for the horse stickers to create the silhoutte? This is a wonderful project for young kids.
It Doesn’t look like you are responding anymore but just by chance, where did you get the horse silhouette? And also what spray adhesive did you use that allowed you to peel it off? Thank you!
Becky
I loved your ideas! Thank you for sharing! I was also wondering what you used to stick the horse silhouette to the canvas. I have been doing some trial and error for a similar project but have not been very successful so far….
I would also like to know what you used to stick the horse to the canvas! Also, what type of paint? Precious idea
Can you tell me where you got the horse sticker you used in painting the canvas? Thanks.
Hi! I have the same questions as the others… Can you provide additional details about the painting project? How did you stick the horse to the canvas? What kind of paint did the girls use? Did the horse peel off of the canvas easily? Is there anything that you would do differently to make the project even more successful if you had the opportunity to do it over again? The paintings look like they came out beautifully – such a clever and fun idea for a party!
Hello, I would also like to know where you got the horse sticker and what kind of paints you used? thanks
I’d like to know where you got the stickers as well. Thank you :)
i cut the horse silhouette out of vinyl with my cricut. i did end up having to add spray adhesive (the kind i use becomes removable if you let it dry before you stick it on). the girls used washable paint (i bought large bottles at hobby lobby). i debated doing a sample for the girls to look at but was glad we didn’t because they were more creative. good luck! beth
Well, disregard my previous question on what you used….but which spray adhesive is it?
Where did you find the horse cutout for the canvas painting? My daughter saw that and was instantly in awe. Needless to say, she now has to have a horse themed birthday party. Thanks!
What do you stick the horse die cut out onto the canvas with so that the paint doesn't seep behind it but can still peel off?
What kind of spray adhesive did you use? Brand, name etc…
Thanks

How would i go about making the chalkboatd invite? I love it!
What did you use for the horse silhouettes? I can't seem to find anything to stick onto the canvass?! I was cutting them out by hand, any tips on that as well ;-) THANK YOU in advance. Hugs, Sara
Did she ever respond? I have been looking for those stickers too.
Ladies that are asking about the horse cut out. Since there hasnt been a response, I did something similar, you can get one of those Duct Tape sheets (they are 8 1/2 x 11 sheets of duct tape) and either run it through a printer with the template you have or trace and cut out the horse and stick it on the canvas (and smooth it down with something flat edged for a good seal). They sell these at Michales or HObby Lobby, Walmart, and Joannes. Like $2.00 a sheet. Hope that helps.

Did that peel off ok? Thanks for the info!
Hi Everyone –
We never received info on where the hostess got the horse stickers unfortunately, but since she’s, my guess would be that she made them herself using a Cricket or Silhouette cutter. Since that’s not going to be an option for everyone, I’d recommend doing a google search for “Horse silhouette decals” or “horse silhouette stickers”. This Esty Shop looks like they have some good alternative options too!
Hope that helps & good luck!
Jenn :)
