I’ve always been a fan of the color-blocked and paint dipped looks, but even more so when they’re EASY to create! These color-blocked favor bags are exactly that… all you need are a few basic craft materials + plain drawstring muslin bags (which I bought here).
This look is versatile enough to work with almost any party theme, but we added the party circles and square favor tags from our Swim Party Collection to customize them for a recent poolside blogger event and a backyard swim party. And for the inside of the bags? Swedish Fish, of course! ;)
Read on for details on how to make this fun little party project yourself…
Color Blocked Drawstring Favor Bags Tutorial
– small drawstring muslin favor bags
– acrylic craft paint
– painter’s tape
– (optional embellishments) favor tags or party circles + pins
Step 1: Tape off each of the bags, creating a triangle-shaped area where the paint will go.
Step 2: Cut small pieces of cardstock to insert into the bags so that wet paint doesn’t bleed through to the back. (You’ll leave these in until the paint is completely dry.)
Step 3: Paint on the color! Be generous with the coverage, and rest assured that the painter’s tape will do all the heavy lifting when it comes to creating a straight line. :)
Once the paint is completely dry, remove the painter’s tape and paper inserts, then fill the bags with your gift/treat of choice.
For the finishing touch, add a themed favor tag or party circle for embellishment:
(I used small safety pins to attach the square favor tags to the bags and bar pin backs to attach the party circles.) For a cute swim/pool party display, set the finished favors on a tray lined with a striped beach towel:
