PARTY DETAILS, as told by Lindsey…
I am usually ahead of trends in party planning, in scrapbooking and decor. I will think of something and then a little while later or a few years it’s super popular. I have been looking for a reason to throw a party involving flamingos for a few years now, but my older daughters have been at ages that they want to pick a party theme, so my littlest daughters 2nd birthday was the perfect opportunity!
I started with a watercolor flamingo that looked so boring by itself, so I added a floral banner and then lemons! Perfect! I loved the painting so much and decided I would also do her invitations as little water colored pieces of art.
I got a few plastic yard flamingos that needed a little pretty around their necks. I made felt floral necklaces for them and I LOVE the end result, it’s one of my favorite things. I also scored some flamingo items at the dollar store of all places, straws, food picks and little ones for goodie bags. I ordered a flamingo float from amazon along with the cutest flamingo candles! Who also needed a floral necklace for the centerpiece i got a simple white ceramic berry basket with lemons in it and some flowers, a greenery garland running down the center with flowers and lemons in it. The tablecloth was actually a top sheet twin size that I’ve had for a few years (lucky I tend to save everything lol) my other favorite was my backdrop… I got a painters drop cloth from Lowes and acrylic paint and then spent hours painting. It turned very pretty and was the perfect backdrop for the pretty flamingos. The favor bags had Lemonheads, little flamingos, and a pink or yellow glow stick in a little white paper bag with lemon die cut tags.
The birthday cake was homemade and I frosted it with buttercream frosting. Since the candles were are already flamingos, I decided the cake should have lemons on it. It turned out darling and delicious!
The week before my daughter’s birthday we took her 2-year-old pictures with two flamingos in an adorable lemon dress. I then printed my favorites and framed them in pink, yellow, white and gold frames.
It was a great party where we did some hand print flamingo art on canvases, a little flamingo face paint, presents, and cake. A great time was had by all, even in the summer heat of Florida!
