I’m so excited to finally share details on the “About to Hatch” event that I designed for Operation Shower earlier this summer! If you’re looking for baby shower inspiration that’s all geometric, bird themed, crafty OR color-blocked, this one’s for you…
Inspired by some sherbet-hued, geometric shower curtains from Target, I thought it would be fun to do take the popular Bird Baby Shower Theme and give it a decidedly MODERN twist. Plus, I was determined to prove to Amy – the chief event planner of Operation Shower who also happens to have a bit of bird-phobia – that we could come up with a bird-centric themed event that even SHE would love. #challengeaccepted ;)
My go-to styling methods of yarn-wrapping and color-blocking definitely played a key role in the decor for this party, from the dressed-up bird houses and “balloon-dipped” wooden eggs to the embellished marquee lights and candle holder “risers”. And of course, there are tons of clever ideas *soaring* from the fabulous dessert table styled by Brittany of GreyGrey Designs… not to mention a buffet of colorful mini desserts that are incredibly “TWEET”!
PARTY HIGHLIGHTS to look out for:
- Shower curtains transformed into table runners and a fun photo booth backdrop
- Silhouette “Tweet” and “Baby” accents on the giant balloons + DIY geometric paper tassels
- Playful “About to HATCH” centerpiece fashioned from wall cubes, hand-cut paper details, & more
- Budget-friendly yarn-wrapped chairs adorned with paper leaves and heart signs
- Clever painted wreath “bird nest” dessert table backdrop + faux cake covered in patterned papers
- Painted Birdhouses with paper-covered roofs + candle holders color-blocked with yarn & buttons
Here’s a quick visual explanation of how I used balloons to make the “color-blocked” wooden eggs for the centerpieces:
Hope you enjoyed these pics!
Big THANK YOU shout out to Babies R Us being such a supportive & generous partner to Operation Shower – and of course to ALL of the vendors & volunteers that donated their time, resources, & talents to this event… including the sweet Courtney from Pizzazzerie who hand-cut boatloads of paper leaves & hearts for us during set-up. ;)
P.S. If you’re looking for similar party inspiration, here are a few of the other Operation Shower events I’ve designed that are also animal-inspired: Sunshine Safari, Baby Bistro and Sunshine Farms. Plus a recap of my all-time favorite animal one – “Fairytale Forest” – is coming up soon!
