Being a creative girl at heart, I always love seeing art themed parties come through the inbox – and this beautiful version that Stephanie from Couture Parties whipped up for her daughter has a fun twist: PASTELS!

Art parties usually come to life in bold, bright colors, but the pastel palette that Stephanie used here has such a lovely vibe to it that feels perfectly fitting for a young girl. The paint can birthday name garland has got to be one of my favorite details, not to mention the painter’s palette cookies, bento box lunches, and “art kits” (containing paint brushes, aprons, and canvases) that sat at each place setting, all tied up with a pretty satin bow. I’m also loving the stylish, retro-mod chair top covers that Stephanie sewed the night before the party (!) to add another big pop of color to the kraft-paper covered kids table.

PARTY DETAILS, as told by Stephanie…

Ellie is my baby, who acts like the oldest child. She is independent, speaks her mind, always wants to wear a dress, is funny, and is the definition of “street smart”. At 5 years old, she thinks she has this life thing figured out. Being a professional event planner, my process is, I have my clients give me all their ideas of what they want out their celebration. My job, to compute it all and make it cohesive and fun! Here were Ellie’s requests:

All Girls (only her brother, grandfather, and Dad were allowed)

• She wanted her friends to have chicken nuggets
• She wanted a big cake instead of cupcakes
• She wanted to make headbands
• She wanted to paint with her friends
• She wanted Cadbury mini eggs
• She wanted glitter
• She wanted to jump in the trampoline.

So we talked it over, and we settled on an Art Party. Getting the inspiration from the pastel color palette of the Cadbury eggs, we thought that would be different then the standard primary that Art parties are known for.

Decor

We hit up our local hardware store to start brainstorming. Paint cans, pastel paints, paint brushes, and drop clothes were the foundation for the snack table. Michael’s had clear paint cans which were perfect vessels for the snacks. The actual table where the kids ate and did crafts was lined with kraft paper for easy clean up in between projects. We made 2 paper pinwheel type centerpieces to hang over the table, it was made out of cardstock, a wooden dowel, and a hole punch and hung with fishing line. The white folding chairs got a little makeover with chair top covers I sewed the night before because I was looking for a little more color on the table. The front of the cans with snacks in them, I made glitter paintbrushes out of paper that had tissue paper I made into fringe to look like a brush. When everyone first arrived they had a canvas, an apron, and paintbrushes at their seat to start their first activity.

ACTIVITIES
Ellie wanted to paint, so that was the first project. Everyone created their own masterpiece that they later took home has their favor. After painting was lunch. After lunch, they then made heart sequin headbands. I got black stretchy head bands from the dollar bin at Target, cut out hearts from felt, sewed them on to the headband. Each girl was given a cupcake liner filled with sequins and some glue. I had also made fabric flowers in advance and the girls were able to pick what type of flower headband they would like, again these were their favors as well. In between all of this, they were outside jumping like kangaroos in the trampoline!

Food

My daughter likes a plate filled with things she can dip or eat in one bite, so I made chicken nuggets (per her request) and each little girl got their own custom lunchable pack that had cheese, grapes, crackers, and a cookie. There were mostly healthy snacks for them to pick at, but of course there were a few treats mixed in! (M & M’s, Cadbury Eggs, Palette Cookies, and Rice Krispy treats) . The cake was made of two layers, that each tier had 3 layers of colors, vanilla frosting, and 3 sugar made peony flowers.
