Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax Inspired Dessert Table
In celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday and the release of the {very adorable looking} movie The Lorax coming out TODAY, check out this fun “The Lorax” Inspired Dessert Table from Lilly of I Heart Sugar Sugar!
I love how she emulated the look of the book’s trufulla trees using tulle poms for the tops and painted curly willow branches or stripey straws for the trunks. Also loving that Universal Studios has provided a free download of the poster artwork for personal use – as seen here on the cupcake wrappers and water bottle labels! I have a feeling this movie is going to be a popular kids birthday party theme this year and the poster artwork and these movie images will come in quite handy. ;)
CREATIVE DETAILS, as told by Lilly…
“I have always been a big fan of Dr. Seuss. So much so, that my son’s first birthday will be Dr. Seuss themed and his playroom is under construction with the same theme! When I found out there was a movie of the book “The Lorax” being made, I knew I had to do something for the premiere. Not only is the movie coming out on Dr. Seuss’ birthday, but 2 days before my friend Wendy’s son’s birthday! She is taking a group of friends to watch The Lorax on opening weekend and wanted to make sure everything was Lorax themed. I knew it was the perfect opportunity to come up with some great ideas!
The most important part of the book the Lorax are trufulla trees. They are being cut down too quickly and not replanted. This was definitely a starting point for the design. Then I thought – how can I give the effect of the fluffiness the tree tops had? Tulle pom poms! So I quickly asked my friend Andrea from Dolce Drive to teach me how to make them. After her quick lesson I went to work to incorporate them into my design.
I decided to make some small ones on striped straws purchased from zgallerie.com as cupcake toppers and some large ones for visual décor. I just love them! Then I spray painted some funky branches I purchased at a local craft store and painted the black stripes on them.
Wendy baked some cupcakes and I frosted them in green to simulate the grass for the base of the trufulla trees we made. Then we wrapped the cupcakes in wrappers Nicole from Social Images made for us. (You can download free artwork & images from the movie on the official website for The Lorax!) We took the same concept and applied it to the water bottles and really had a theme going by then. Andrea then kindly made the tags for me! The last detail??? The chocolate mustaches!! They were simple to make but so appropriate for The Lorax!
In honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, we included in the favor packs for the kids that included; A Dr. Seuss book, an activity sheet of the Lorax, and a movie box snack to enjoy during the show! This small project was so much fun and most of all, when the birthday boy to be saw it he looked at us and said “I love it all!” and that made it all worth it!

What an awesome party! So colorful and fun.
Here is even more color to add- a green and Pink plant that moves like and animal. I think The Lorax is important story that can be used to teach kids about our environment. One way to teach children to be more sensitive to plants and nature is to have them grow the most sensitive plant of all – the TickleMe Plant. Though its not a Truffula tree, what makes the pet TickleMe Plant so magical is that it reacts as if it were being tickled when you Tickle It! The leaves fold and the branches droop! Just search TickleMe Plant to see a live one in action and to get your own little greenhouse kit to grow one. Every Lorax fan can grow a TickleMe Plant. We have used TickleMe Plants for Dr. Seuss themed parties.
