7 Easy Ideas for a Spooky Fun Halloween Party

Quick Jump To » Comments

Spooky Fun Halloween Party

Last year I helped a friend throw a family-friendly Halloween party full of bright colors, creepy-cool skeletons, and cauldron-loads of CANDY. (It’s Halloween, after all!) 🎃

Most of our kids were in the 8-12 range. It’s kind of a tricky age where they don’t want things TOO cutesy or TOO scary. So… I went for an artsy Halloween vibe with the printables – where *creepy* things like skeletons, witches, and the grim reaper 💀 were portrayed in a playful way.

Read on for 7 totally doable ideas that you can use for ANY family-friendly Halloween party. Including super-easy things like displaying cute signs with Halloween puns! Scroll down to see what I mean… I’m just *DYING* to show you. 😜

TIP #1. Put a (bottle) label on it.

You can make any bottle more fun by giving it a festive label! This rings true for kid and adult drinks alike.

I used our Spooky Fun large labels for the adult drink station (and on the candy bags for the kids! more on that below).

To apply the labels, I usually turn wine bottles around and tape them to the back of the bottle. This way guests can still easily see what they’re pouring.

For hard liquor, it really depends on the bottle design. Just figure out if the front or back works best, and if you want to remove the original labels first.

2-liter soda bottles work great with this label size, too! All of the text on this Halloween label set is editable, so you can also make them say whatever you want. 🙌

TIP #2. Deck the walls with *creepy cloth*.

I usually think of this mummy-like Halloween fabric as “black cheesecloth” in my head, but it falls under all sorts of names when you’re shopping – tattered cloth, creepy cloth, creepy fabric, Halloween gauze, etc. Whatever you may call it, it makes a HUGE impact on your walls for very little money! 🙌

I usually use the small 3M Command wall hooks to hang them up.

TIP #2. Serve a *spooky* party punch.

I’m kicking myself for not getting a clear pic of our Halloween punch, but we were all in a rush to get to the actual party I guess. 🤷‍♀️😉  You can get the basic idea from the *wonderfully* fuzzy pic above though.

Both punches used 3 ingredients + dry ice. Just mix the juices together, then stir in the jello mix and serve immediately. Here’s the breakdown:

  • 1 gallon Hawaiian Punch + 2L Sprite + 1 box Strawberry (or Cherry) Jello Mix

  • Simply Lemonade (52 oz bottle) + 2L Sprite + 1 box Lime Jello Mix

Add dry ice for extra spooky fun!

TIP #3. Put their name on it.

There’s bound to be lots of candy and treats going around at a Halloween party… so help everyone keep their loot straight by having paper bags on hand that are pre-labeled with names.

This is also a great way to make guests (of any age!) feel special. Everyone loves seeing their name on a gift bag. 😉

(Also – these labels are available on their own OR as part of the full party collection.)

TIP #4. Give treats a new (& more creepy!) name.

Halloween is the perfect time to serve things like “Wicked Witch Hair” (sour candy straws), “Graveyard Stones” (white chocolate bars), and “Rabbit Rat Droppings” (Whoppers), without anyone blinking an eye.

I used our smaller printable “fancy labels” to label all the candy jars here.

BTW – If you run out of fitting names or need to label a jar of mixed candies, etc – you can always use more general terms like “Spellbound Sugar Mix” and “Hocus Pocus”. It’s really just about getting a little Halloween flair on there however you can. 😉

TIP #5. Help them find their Witch name.

Any house party can feel a little quiet at the beginning… especially if the early arrivals don’t know each other super well. That’s why I love things like this “Find Your Witch Name” activity.

It’s super easy – all you have to do is print it out and display it somewhere super obvious/easy to see. It also gives guests something to look at and chat about with whoever happens to be around.

This Witch Name Finder is part of the Spooky Fun printable collection and it’s also available by itself for free!

(We did a “find your unicorn name” version at my daughter’s birthday party too… you can really make it work with any theme!)

TIP #6. Go *batty*… everywhere! 🦇🤩

Small details can make a big difference, and paper bats are the perfect example of this! We used them everywhere at this party… on the walls, the skeletons, the frames, the pumpkins, etc.

Anywhere that was missing that little “something extra” got an instant paper bat makeover. Most of these bats were ordered on Amazon.

I used 3D zots (adhesive dots) to stick them to skeletons, frames, plastic jars, bricks, etc… anything where I wasn’t worried about the paint coming loose. For walls, you need to be a little more careful. The sets of bats on Amazon usually come with a wall-safe adhesive, or you can roll tape, etc.

TIP #7. Let signs do the talking for you (creatively!).

Decorative signs are such an effective way to label stations (food, drinks, favors, activities, etc), offer helpful info, and give tables a finished look.

For example, in the image directly below the adult drink station image (in Tip #1, above) you’ll see a sign that says “more drinks are in the coolers out back”. Little details like this help guests find what they need, even when you’re not around to tell them!

And of course, the other thing signs are AMAZING at is sprinkling in humor here and there. Even the grim reaper agrees. 😜

Here’s a peek at one of the signs right after it came out of my printer. A few of the signs from this collection (like this Witch design) come in more than 1 color because I could. not. decide. which one I liked best.  Nothing wrong with having options, right? 😉
