PARTY DETAILS, as told by Autumn

My son’s Zaine and Ethan are infatuated with all things fishing. After asking them what they wanted to do for their joint birthday party this year both boys came up with the idea of  a Gone Fishing theme. After talking to Carli from DimplePrints we decide to go with a plaid vintage theme based on fishing at a pond or lake.

I began looking everywhere for fishing items to match our theme, I wanted rustic yet I still wanted a fair amount of color. I bought huge lures, gone fishing signs, a tackle box, fishing net, and vintage soda crates. I wrapped tin cans in jute twine and filled them with various fishing goodies. I used a piece of old fence as the table and wrapped the front of it with brown paper. My backdrop was simply the fencing in my back yard.

My boy’s requested a tackle box cake. I sent the pic off to Michelle at Sugar Rush Stuff and the cake they wished for was brought to life. The cake even featured a fish that matched the party printables. Carli from DimplePrints created a whole package for my party and I wanted to use as many elements as possible on my sweets table. I printed and assembled fry boxes (filled with goldfish), popcorn boxes (filled with blue raspberry popcorn), mini and full sized chocolate bar wrappers, live bait buckets (filled with dirt pie), and catch of the day chocolate covered Oreo baggie toppers. The sweets table also featured bobber cake pops, bass chocolate lollipops, cat tails (Hohos on a skewer), fishing poles (pretzels rods with peel and eat licorice with a Swedish fish attached), and fishing reels (two tagalong cookies with a marshmallow in the middle). Sweet Baketique donated the yummy sugar cookies. Party cones by Superchickland were filled with fish food (chex mix).

For the party favors, I decide to buy mini lure boxes. The boy’s help me fill the lure boxes with gummy worms. I tied them closed with more jute twine and added a “Thank you for making my party reel fun” tag and a fishing bobber. These boxes were a real hit with the kids.

Besides watching my boy’s faces light up seeing their “Gone Fishing” party, my two favorite things were the tackle box featuring my boy’s ages and then of course the Catch of the Day woodgrain Oreos.

Awesome idea we had a fishing party last year for our son and it was so cute. There are some fishing party supplies out there we used.

How did you get the cat tails to stay? I tried it and mine just slide right down on the skewer. :(
