lumberjack first birthday

Triplet boys means there’s LOTS of manliness in the house! So, when Joseph, Anthony, and Christopher turned one, Bruna Sanches of Simply Lace Photography and Kathie Barone of Southern Charm Vintage Rentals helped parents Anna and Frank throw a Rustic & Burly Lumberjack Bash that sure is incredibly handsome. Clever details like a 3D cardboard moose head, silly photo booth props (including a stack of pancakes with butter!) from Love Lettering by Doris Wai, flannel & wood textures, and a trio of grizzly stump birthday cakes made for a playful and personality-filled afternoon that ended with the cutest smash cake photo session ever. Scroll down to check out all the fun… you’ll be so PLAID you did! ;)

PARTY DETAILS to look out for:

  • “Burly Baked Goods” aka plaid shirt, saw, eggs & bacon, and more manly cookies from The Cocoa Cakery
  • Mini log cabin with “forrest berry” gumballs, 3D moose head, and pinecone garland
  • Lumber lager & apple “ale” in mason jars with wood grain straws + “Axing for trouble” red wagon photo booth
  • Vintage plaid thermos vases, wood stump birthday cakes with cutout toppers, & pine tree favors

PARTY DETAILS, as told by Bruna…

Inspiration is never far away when you have triplet’s in the family. And these all-male triplets were a great opportunity for their aunt and owner of Southern Charm Vintage Rentals to have some fun with a styled shoot/birthday bash.

Partnering with Simply Lace Photography owner, Bruna Sanches, they decided on a Lumberjack Bash 1st Birthday theme for three burley boys whose parents collectively refer to them as “JAC”. Joseph, Anthony and Christopher.

For a unique twist, artist Doris Wai, of Love Lettering joined the collaboration to create all hand-made paper décor. Hand-lettered glass, wood and paper, as well as creating 3-D cutouts of original art, all added whimsy and character.

The main table was a rustic harvest table with a large, dimensional Moose Head and pinecone bunting as a backdrop. Wood cake stands, crates, and a log cabin with ‘red forest berries’ displayed the sweets. Beverages were served in mason jars were hand-lettered “Apple Ale” and detailed with plaid flags on wood-grain straws.

The Cocoa Cakery provided colourful, hand-painted cookies of lanterns, flannel, pancakes and tools, as well as three matching log smash cakes with bark-like texture. Hand-cut toppers were whimsical with each boy’s name on a banner held by songbirds. And, sweets were labeled with “axe” tags held in wood stumps.

A white farm table greeted guests displaying drinks and favours. Details included party hats in flannel design, lumberjack photo booth props (beards, pancakes, moose antlers, beaver teeth, etc.) displayed in vintage, plaid thermos ‘vases’, mini mason jars with flannel and twig bands, and an amber jug dispenser hand labeled “Lumber Lager”. A small antique box held pine tree party favors with chalk art “Come grow with us!” sketched on a custom twig chalkboard. Each favour was wrapped in burlap and embellished with an “I HEART LUMBERJACKS” mini button.

But the true highlight of the day were the little lumberjacks themselves. They posed in a vintage red wagon with hand illustrated paper axes and a wood sign lettered “Axing for Trouble”. And family dog, Grimsby, donned his plaid to join in on the action, although none too thrilled to be there.

After the smash cake session, it was clean up time in the vintage baby bathtub. And there, little lumberjacks became sweet baby boys once again.

would you mind telling me if the wood wall they are photographed in front of is real, or is that a photography backdrop? thanks!

    • jenn s. February 9, 2016 at 6:53 am

Hi Tiffani – My guess would be a photography backdrop, but it’s probably your best bet to reach out to Bruna directly. I’m not sure if she’ll see your question here since this post is from a while back. Good luck! :)
