Trend Alert: Doodle Cakes & Cake Bars
Tonya Coleman here from Soireé Event Design, and I’m back with a brand new series “Trend Alert” where I share with you some of the hottest trends in party planning! Today’s guest post is all about Doodle Cakes! A doodle cake is a regular cake covered in white fondant icing that can be decorated with edible markers.
Rosie from Sweetapolita created this gorgeous rainbow cake for her daughter’s birthday and then let the birthday girl decorate her own cake! How cute and creative is that!
HOW TO CREATE A DOODLE CAKE BAR:
1. Order or make 6″ round fondant white cakes for each of your guests.
2. Display them on varying heights cake stands on a table.
3. Place a container of edible markers on the table.
4. Let each guest decorate their own personal cake!
Your Doodle Cake Bar will do DOUBLE DUTY as a unique sweet treat for each guest AND a party activity! A few months ago I styled a Doodle Party that would go perfectly with this! Click here to see all the “Doodle Party” photos. What do you think of this new trend?

How fun! Perfect for those of us that are not great with icing!

Will certainly try it for Olivia’s birthday……what a blast!
I made one of these for my daughter’s recent 6th birthday party and it was a huge hit – although not quite as nicely made as tis one! The kids loved the novelty of drawing on the cake and they were all surprised when it was cut open and they saw the colourful layers. You can see it here: http://www.littlehiccups.net/2013/02/avas-6th-birthday-party.html
This is a great idea! I just wish fondant tasted better to me – not a big fan. And, ordering cakes for everyone attending would cost me my first and second born. Ha ha!
Try making cupcakes for those attending and make a marshmallow fondant. It has a much better taste!
a cake for each guest? Um kinda pricey!!! Cute idea.
Super cute and our brand new Edible Art Party lollipops would fit right in as favors!!
I really appreciate this concept of making birthday cakes like this… kids will really enjoy decorating cakes…

This is so cute! What's stranger is that is my maiden name! I don't know of anyone else with that last name! Alyea is not common.
