Thanksgiving Ideas for Kids

This cheery & bright KID-FRIENDLY THANKSGIVING shoot by stationery designer Lauren McKinsey is modern simplicity at it’s best! Lauren was able capture a very clean and contemporary look with great patterns and a vibrant color palette, but also threw in a few vintage pieces for added rustic charm and character.

Creative details like sprinkle-rimmed milk jars and colorful paper garlands were paired with fun activity ideas for the kids… including candy apple making and a homemade tent “storytime area” (great idea!) stocked with blankets, books, and pillows. There were also little cards for the kids to write down what they were thankful foraside from the adorable 6-layer cake they got to enjoy of course! ;)

PARTY DETAILS, as told by Lauren

The idea was to create a kid friendly table for Thanksgiving and to create a ‘space’ just for them.  My wonderful husband even built the tent for me! A kid table and chairs were used and were covered in craft paper.  A paper banner adorned each chair and Happy Thanksgiving was written along the edges of the paper on the table.  Milk ‘jars’ were dipped in chocolate and then in sprinkles and held coordinating paper straws.  Each drink was personalized with the child’s name!  Making caramel covered apples was the activity of the day.  Plastic paint pails were filled with candies and allowed each child to decorate their own apple.  A beautiful cake with a fondant turkey and banner made for a very special kid’s only dessert!

Each child was given their own ‘I am thankful for’ fill in sheet so that they could hang their ‘thankful cards’ on a ribbon strung frame.  Favor (gable) boxes were filled with fun books, crayons and more as a reminder of how thankful we were for them!

This was a great day.  Although it was a photo shoot for Giggle magazine, it was my goal for each child to enjoy the day.  To make their own apples, eat lots of cake and to leave with goodies that let them know how THANKFUL I was to them for making it a great day!”
