Camping Themed Birthday Party

I’m excited to kick off the new week with a CAMPING themed birthday party that just looks like an absolute blast! And that’s exactly what a party is supposed to be, right?!

Desiree from Desiree Spinner Events created such a fun adventure for this birthday boy & his guests at “CAMP LUKE”, where they were greeted with bright green “explorer back packs” (complete with mini binoculars, compass & more!), enjoyed camping-style games, and watched a movie under the stars while chowing down on mini burgers, fries, and adorable camping-themed sugar cookies. There was even a cool custom tent (made by modifying a pop-up tent from Target) and clever “I Survived Camp Luke” tees for kids to take home!

PARTY DETAILS, as told by Desiree….

“For this party we purchased a small pop up tent at a local Target and took off all the tenting, then hand-sewed fabric panels and tied & hung each panel to the structure to create a “dreamy feeling” tent.  We put blankets and lanterns down for the kids to play with and also hung wooden shaped stars that I painted with glow in the dark paint.

We ordered back packs from LL Bean in the spring when they are super on sale and filled them with small camping goodies like an explorer hat, a copy of Curious George Goes Camping and binoculars.

When the kids arrived we gave them each an explorer backpack.  We also got two picnic tables and painted them with green chalk paint so the kids could get that camp-out feeling but also draw and have fun with them!

For the movie screening we got a projector and mini folding camping chairs that were on sale at Amazon and put pillows and blankets out. Kids had been encouraged (via the invitation) to bring their own sleeping bags with them.

The colors were brown, dark green and light green and we kept everything in the color palette.  We had camping themed kids music playing and invited Miss Lori from Klub Kidz to come play camping themed games with the kids to wear them out! =) When they wound down to watch the movie (Bernstein Bears go Camping) we served them mini burgers and fries.  The cookies were brought out in a paper bag, along with fondant start topped cupcakes by Delicious Desserts.”

    Love. Love. Love.

Is there a list of where the favors (flashlight, compass, light sticks, hats, etc) were found?

And where was the pillow with patches found? I know I’ve seen it somewhere before…

Oh my gosh. I love this theme! I just did a search for “camping themed bedroom” because I want to re-do our boys’ bedroom and check out the awesome camping theme baby shower ideas I found: (just fyi: i’m in no way affiliated with this link – I hate when people promote their own stores or blogs on comment forms, I just found it and thought it was pertinent and awesome).

This looks like an incredibly fun party! I *love* the inflatable movie screen! I think it’s especially cool that you can use this theme even on a budget – as long as you have a backyard and some creativity, you should be good to go!

  17. Krista Ferns April 12, 2011 at 12:02 pm

Yes! Please! Where did the “patched” pillow come from????

I am going to try to pull this off for my son’s birthday in August. It will be hot, but I’ll include a swimming hole (pool). I didn’t see anything written about the games and activites. What was the game with balls and the one with hoola hoops and noodles? I NEED to know. Thank you, can’t wait to do this.

  23. Ariana July 10, 2012 at 11:44 am

I pinned the book idea to pinterest, love that for party favors!

I sincerely want to do a camping theme b-day for my boys, but seriously? each guest gets an LLBean backpack? I suppose they got to take their little camp chairs too? I guess poor people don't know how to party…

    • Joan Littlefield Pearson September 14, 2012 at 11:43 pm

I can outdo your b-day party gifts with my child's b'day party gifts.

  30. Luciana Torres December 14, 2013 at 11:59 pm

I love it!! I wish there was an "affordable version" too… $300-400 on backpacks only? insanely expensive.

  31. Cindy Bassett March 29, 2016 at 6:07 pm
