Elmo, Oscar, Big Bird & the Cookie Monster — gang’s all here! As part of Chinese tradition, Rena Tan of Sugarena :: Candy Buffet Stylist created a Sesame Street Party Dessert Table for her sweet baby Varian, who had recently reached the one month milestone! The Sesame Street characters were included so creatively in the backdrop and throughout the dessert table treats. Rena certainly makes it look as easy as 1, 2, 3, but we all know how much love and time she put into it!

PARTY DETAILS as told by Rena…

In Chinese custom, we celebrate a newborn reaching one month old as it is regarded as a significant milestone. To mark this special occasion, I picked a theme that I grew up with and had extremely fond memories of — Sesame Street. It’s an awesome theme as it is rich in colors and characters!

I chose four main colors for my dessert table —Red (Elmo), Blue (Cookie Monster), Green (Oscar the Grouch) and Yellow (Big Bird). The candies and snacks were carefully picked and chosen to complement the color scheme. For example, I did cut outs of a Cookie Monster face and pasted it on strips of Oreo Cookies — and they looked amazing! The Hershey Miniatures with the faces of the key Sesame Street characters were a hit with the kids (and adults too) and were gone in minutes! The Marshmallow Pops from Little House of Dreams were super cute and looked like mini flowers in the white planters.

In terms of decor, I designed a simple backdrop with my baby’s name on the recognizable green Sesame Street signage. I printed cut outs of the faces of Elmo, Big Bird, Cookie Monster and Oscar the Grouch for the helium balloons and flower pom poms — to bring the candy table to life.

A Sesame Street Party would not be the same without Oscar The Grouch — and hence I must have him on my table! I finally got these mini trash cans quite cheaply from an online store, printed cut outs of Oscar and stuck them to the insides of the trash cans, which I filled up with sour apple candy sticks. The final result was really cool and thrilled our guests to no end.

To add a final touch of class to the party, my hubby created a Ferrero Rocher Topiary Tree for the table. I designed another Sesame Street signage with Varian’s name on it to go with the gorgeous chocolate tree — so that it ties in beautifully with the party theme.

Needless to say, our Sesame Street candy table turned out to be the star of the party. Our guests were so thrilled by all the customized candies and snacks that they forgot about the main buffet line!
