Aisha of Dooby Design (& proud mom to recent grad Gregory) whipped up this creative Graduation Brunch inspired by his favorite things: basketball & True Religion jeans. I love how she completely personalized the theme to reflect the guest of honor, and also how she managed to accomplish a look that’s both masculine AND elegant!

PARTY HIGHLIGHTS to look out for:

  • True Religion jeans inspired place card “hang tags”
  • “Napkin rings” fashioned from the tops of old jeans
  • Homemade basketball textured placemats
  • Incredibly artistic 2-tier basketball & denim themed cake

PARTY DETAILS, as told by Aisha

The inspiration behind the design was my son’s love for basketball and True Religion jeans. While planning his graduation weekend of events, I decided to have a brunch on Sunday to celebrate his accomplishment. I wanted to create a design that reflected his personality.

After taking the time to determine how to incorporate True Religion jeans, I decided to create a version of the iconic tru religion tag found on the jeans itself. I came up with a designer tag that reflected my son’s style. I had a caricature created of him from a photo on my iphone. I then used old jeans and cut all the tops with loops, custom printed the new tag and ironed them on a cloth fabric. My mother-in-law stitched the edges of the tags as well as the custom placemats I created from a basketball fabric material found at Joann Fabrics.

I finished off the table-scape with tree bark centerpieces I borrowed from my friend Susan of Passionflowers, and added white peonies, green hydrangea and protea. I wanted to bring in some of his school color of  royal blue, I accomplished this with the stemware and small vases. Overall I wanted the event to feel masculine yet elegant and a reflection of my son.

For the cake I contacted my go to cake designer Sweet Heather Anne. We had a great time sitting in her quaint studio as I explained to her the design concept for the event. Myself and his friends were ecstatic when we saw the finished cake design. It was just what I imagined and as always Heather and her team did a fabulous job!

I LOVE this! What a unique and cool idea. Love the ying and yang of the softness of the flowers with the ruggedness of the denim napkin rings and the basketball textured placemats. Bravo! Job well done!!
