PARTY DETAILS, as told by Angela

Black and white and super chic; our Coco Chanel inspired dessert table we set up for our client Carmen’s 30th birthday party. Carmen is in the fashion industry and is a huge Chanel fan, so she decided to treat herself for the big 3-0 and throw herself a Chanel inspired bash. We were thrilled to get the chance to flex our creative muscles working with the limited palette of black and white and just pearls, those classic double C insignias and Coco’s signature camellia flower for inspiration.

We lucked out that our client’s party room just happened to have a fabulous graphic black and white wall to use as a back drop. Too perfect. Desserts were displayed on all white platters and cake stands, which were set on top of our tailored black quilted fabric, used to mimic those famous Chanel handbags. We also used fashion-inspired props like a black wrought iron dressmaker’s dummy dripping in pearls and a wire hat stand with a gorgeous black and white cloche. A banner with “Chanel No. 30” to commemorate the birthday girl’s big 3-0 was hung across the table front. A final touch: a sweet white hobnail vase with a simple arrangement of white daisies.

We had fun coming up with lots of different treats in black and white. Most notable is the centerpiece of our table – our 3 tiered birthday cake with alternating layers of chocolate and vanilla covered in royal icing camellia and double C appliques and topped with a Chanel Number 5 cookie perfume bottle. We had trays of quilted sugar cookies and chocolate covered Oreos also with those signature double C’s, our tribute to Coco Chanel with a platter full of individually wrapped Coco Krispie Treats, a mini triple layer red velvet cake covered in white camellias with black centers, chocolate cupcakes with royal icing camellias in black and pearl studded liners, as well as chocolate dipped vanilla meringues and mini baby cakes topped with edible pearls.
