Circa 1980’s Cassette Tape 30th Birthday
It’s always so inspiring to see outside-the-box party themes… especially when they’re pulled off as well as this fantastic Circa 1980’s Cassette Tape surprise party that Jessica of Modern Moments Designs created for her husband’s 30th?! I love how she took a “retro” concept and give it a wonderfully modern twist!
There are so many fabulous DIY details in this party… starting with the cool cassette tape graphic that Jessica used in the invitation, then carried throughout the rest of the party on everything from the food labels and favors to the drink coasters and ice bucket (pictured above).
And wait ’til you see the little marzipan lemons & oranges that she made for the cupcakes!
Read on for LOTS more images and all the party details, as told by Jessica… and prepare to be inspired!
“For my husband’s 30th birthday, I did a Circa 1980’s Cassette Tape theme! The colors were orange, teal, and yellow. For decorations we used paper lanterns, faux tangerines, personalized paper products such as coasters, ice buckets, lucite serving trays, etc.
A display of Tootsie Pops and Blow Pops added a little humor…
For favors I gave people cookies with edible icing decals that matched the party.
The food was very “manly” and included things like chicken wings, sweet and spicy mac & cheese, Cajun fries, olives, veggies, paninis, etc.
Party drinks included a wheelbarrow of beer, wine, and a melon liquor.

I LOVE THIS! My partner is turning thirty in a few months and I have just been instructed that I am not to throw him a party! I’m like, what?! As if!
So many posts on this blog inspire me to create fabulous events and I love that this party is so cute but managed to also have touches of masculinity. I don’t think my partner would let me get away with this…but maybe something a little lower key…
Fingers crossed, anyway.
