There are few things more beautiful than an old Hollywood bride, add to that some seriously amazing florals and the cutest little flower girl and ring bearer and you’ve got a recipe for perfection! :)

PARTY DETAILS as told by Kristen…

Our inspiration for both the color palette and feel of this shoot came from a variety of places — we aimed to have the overall look have a vintage-garden feel with a touch of shimmering gold glamour.

I loved the idea of doing a lush foliage garland on the sweetheart table accents with lots of lush flowers. That was where the design inspiration began, and then I started collecting handmade crocheted doilies and vintage tea tins on Ebay and felt like they could all work well together. I loved the idea of lots of saturated colors together and wanted to utilize many of the flowers of the season (anemones, parrot tulips, ranunculus, viburnum, sweet pea, lilac) while using some of my tried and true favorites like garden roses, novelty rose varieties, seeded eucalyptus, silver dollar eucalyptus, stock, hydrangea, lisianthus, veronica, snapdragons, lady’s mantle, Italian pittosporum, stock, silver sage, and succulents. I even used some gold-dipped and gold-glittered seeded eucalyptus accents in some of the key pieces as well.

What we ended up with was a stunning color palette with purples, oranges, peaches, fuchsias, greens, ivory and metallic gold. These colors were echoed throughout the décor from the attire to the linens and the flowers, there was cohesion while still achieving a “collected feel” with many of the pieces.

The model was styled to perfectly fit the vintage classic vibe of the shoot. She wore a beautiful Amy Kuschel sheath-style silk crepe gown, which was adorned with a fabric rhinestone belt, giving it the perfect touch of elegance and glamour without being too over-the-top. The soft vintage side-swept updo of large barrel curls worked perfectly with the plunging neckline and open back of the gown. The makeup was kept classic using tones of peach, pink and neutrals and her eyes were emphasized with faux fluttery lashes. Rhinestone chandelier earrings and a fresh floral hairpiece were added to complete the look.

One of the things that makes this shoot so unique is the focus on the children in the wedding. I’ve always wanted to showcase alternative looks for tiny flower girls and ring bearers. So many of our clients have younger (3 year old and under) children participate in their weddings and I’ve seen so many of the little ones have total meltdowns, I’ve always wanted to see if there was a way to make them feel more comfortable (and look even cuter in the process). My solution was to offer a ‘Ring Bear’ for both ring bearers and flower girls. I came up with a couple options — a small bear with custom pillow attached to it and also a bear with a tiny boutonnière of its very own and a ribbon to coordinate to the wedding. The kids LOVED them. We also showed some other unique looks for kiddos — for our ring bearer, Liam, in addition to the bear, he also had a round custom ring pillow with a handmade vintage crocheted doily and a tiny tin-covered box with moss and a succulent inside. He also had a gold polka-dot bow tie to match our flower girl’s handmade gold polka dot dress. Our little flower girl, Aria, had a few looks of her own: two options for her head — a sequined headband with fresh floral accents and a wreath made with ribbons and baby’s breath. In addition to getting a bear of her own, Aria also got a floral wand and moss-covered, flower-filled basket to play with. Any of these looks would be AWESOME for young flower girls and ring bearer. Our little ones really loved playing with ALL of the pieces we made for them!

In addition to the items already mentioned, we also did some custom paper items for the shoot including custom-made menus, escort cards and ‘Thank You’ cards. The circular Menus were printed on ivory cardstock, cut out, dipped in glue and gold glitter, and then were hot-glued to accordion-folded circles. We set them on top of a uniquely tri-folded napkin that wrapped around the plate and charger plate for a polished look. We alternated the napkin and menu colors on the guest tables for added color and interest.

We offer similar Thank You favor cards at our Etsy store, but these were kicked up a notch with a glitter heart between the “Thank” and “You.” A toothpick dipped in glue can be used to do tiny detail areas like this — just add glitter and you can add custom glam
details to anything! For the Escort Cards, we started with flat ivory cards. To make them coordinate with the vintage crochet doily runner we had on the guest table, I made a cardstock lace stencil template using the Martha Stewart doily lace edger (available here).

I taped the lace edge just below the top of the flat escort cards and spray painted them with metallic antique gold spray paint. For more sparkle, while the stencil was still on them, I sprayed them with gold glitter spray as well. The end result was a gold-doily edge pattern that shimmered in the candlelight. A totally custom look that came at very little expense.

We absolutely loved doing this shoot. The colors in the flowers and linens are so rich, the model is so beautiful and the kids are so adorable that we just really loved seeing all of our ideas come together. We really hope to inspire others with some of these unique ideas!
