PARTY DETAILS, as told by Kim

As I was throwing around theme ideas for my son’s third birthday, I came across this nautical print fabric by Michael Miller Fabrics and I was immediately hooked on the colors! I used tomato red, navy and various shades of turquoise throughout the party. I ordered custom invitations with a paper boat design from NOTES by red letter design on Etsy.

I was very fortunate that a friend of mine was able to score the captain’s wheel and lighthouse from her parents’ garage. I used these to create a nautical mantle. Her Dad also did the wood burned signs I used on the front door and dessert table. I made the buntings on the mantle and above the dessert table with scrap fabric and jute twine. I used the Mutiny on the Bounty fabric as the top layer on the dessert table. I made a three layer cake with graduating shades of blue inside. I topped the cake with a simple paper boat. I made red velvet cupcakes, topped them with cream cheese frosting and a paper “sail.”
